America return to me and I will return to you

This season is a traditional time for ingathering. The harvest is ripening in the fields. Thoughts of preparation for the coming Winter are more frequent. We are remembering what we have done and maybe even feeling regret for some of our deeds.

The ancient custom of reciting a special prayer asking God to make our unknown vows (unkept promises) null and void is on the calendar for today, the day before Yom Kippur. These are the sins of omission it would seem. And tomorrow, the confession of the sins of commission.

Today, some of the strongest voices calling America to return to God will be in our nation’s capitol. Americans will gather to repent; for living as if God was not the center of our lives, for the blood of the innocents shed on our land, for carelessly breaking covenants, for pride, self-indulgence, turning a blind eye to the evils of slavery, exploitation and abuse.

Today is one of those days where we will join together in humbling ourselves before the One to whom we owe every good gift, crying out for Mercy.

“18 I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. 19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.

20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”

Revelation 3:18-20

  1. He is like a voice crying in the wilderness.

The weeping in his heart as he broke a clay vessel as he tells the story of prophet that God commanded to demonstrate what would happen if Isreal would not turn back to God.

Powerful words, but also from a heart on fire.

  2. Matthew 7:13
“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.

    Matthew 7:14
For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

    1. Here is Pablo Casals playing Kol Nidre, probably from 100 years ago, so the orchestra will be a little “tinny” sounding. But he really “speaks” through his cello, like a recitativo. When the piece shifts to D Major, it’s like the sun coming out after a dark day (in spite of the ancient recording).
Feuermann and Du Pré were both heirs apparent to Casals, but left us too soon.

      Emanuel Feuermann – Bruch : Kol Nidrei Op.47 (1930) [90 years ago!!!]
Berlin State Opera Orchestra, Feuermann Emanuel, Weissmann Frieder

And Jacqueline Du Pré, with Daniel Barenboim conducting the Israel Philharmonic

In contrast, an excellent, though probably less-known version (piano accompaniment)
by Jacqueline Du Pré, with Gerald Moore as accompanist. He was one of the greatest accompanists, and also accompanied Pablo Casals many, many years earlier(!)

  3. Matthew 24:37
For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.
38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,
39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
40 Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left.
41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left.

  4. A Disclaimer to start: I am not Jewish.
From years of off and on reading about Judaism, it seems to me that the core of the Kol Nidre is rooted in the belief that one must first cleanse their soul of is termed “the sins of omission”, before they can proceed to the Yom Kippur and ask the Almighty to forgive “the sins of commission”. This cleansing is called “annulment”. Both types of sins are presented before the Almighty and forgiveness sought in order to have complete atonement.
But it goes deeper than this. Part of the concept of Kol Nidre flowing into Yom Kippur is that, having sought forgiveness from the Almighty and “wiping the slate clean”, is a promise to the Almighty that one will do better. And it’s not a promise made with fingers crossed behind the back, for the Almighty will know this also. Another part of the concept is that individual persons, while making their own personal atonement and promise to do better, come together as a community to atone and promise to do better as a group.

  5. Genesis 18
    24: 50 people
    28: 45 people
    29: 40 people
    30: 30 people
    31: 20 peopl

32: Then he said, “Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak only this once; suppose TEN are found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it on account of the ten.”

(And not even 10 righteous people could be found.
So Sodom and Gomorrah were DESTROYED.)

  7. Small nit to pick:
“Christ” is not Jesus’ last name.
It his POSITION as the “Anointed one”.

Christ comes from the Greek word χριστός (chrīstós), meaning “anointed one”. The word is derived from the Greek verb χρίω (chrī́ō), meaning “to anoint.” In the Greek Septuagint, christos was used to translate the Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (Mašíaḥ, messiah), meaning “[one who is] anointed”.

    Therefore… I call HIM…. “Jesus… The Christ”.

  8. We are not called to be “Moral” (“Moral” is a Human term that changes with time)
We are called to be “HOLY” (which is RIGHTEOUS – God’s Morality)
Though we can NOT achieve Holiness this side of Heaven, we should still strive for it.

  9. Sound Familiar?

    Revelation 18
1 After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illumined with his glory.
2 And he cried out with a mighty voice, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the passion of her immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich by the wealth of her sensuality.”

    4 I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues;
5 for her sins have piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.
6 Pay her back even as she has paid, and give back to her double according to her deeds; in the cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her.
7 To the degree that she glorified herself and lived sensuously, to the same degree give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’
8 For this reason in one day her plagues will come, pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her is strong.

9 “And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of immorality and lived sensuously with her, will weep and lament over her when they see the smoke of her burning,
10 standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’

11 “And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargoes any more—
12 cargoes of gold and silver and precious stones and pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet, and every kind of citron wood and every article of ivory and every article made from very costly wood and bronze and iron and marble,
13 and cinnamon and spice and incense and perfume and frankincense and wine and olive oil and fine flour and wheat and cattle and sheep, and cargoes of horses and chariots and slaves and human lives.
14 The fruit you long for has gone from you, and all things that were luxurious and splendid have passed away from you and men will no longer find them.
15 The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning,
    16 saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, she who was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls;
17 for in one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!’ And every shipmaster and every passenger and sailor, and as many as make their living by the sea, stood at a distance,
18 and were crying out as they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What city is like the great city?’
19 And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had ships at sea became rich by her wealth, for in one hour she has been laid waste!’

  11. 10’s of millions are watching this prayer gathering around the world!

Speaking of communism as something that seeks to separate us from the God given free will to follow Him.

Choose this day, whom you will serve.
But as for me in my house,
    We will serve the Lord.

Father we bow our heads and ask for Mercy and for your protection.
May the world surrender to the Prince of Peace and find ther peace.

  12. Great post, Gudthots (I’m a little late here, sorry).

We as a nation need to repent (as does Germany), for nations can be under judgement just as individuals can. This, of course, is considered by the elite to be outmoded and old-fashioned, yet it is ALWAYS current, as is GOD’S WORD.

I hope and pray that many people are reached by this day of prayer and take it to heart. Our nation needs healing and revival and prayer. Ephesians 6:10-18: is what we’re seeing more and more as the election approaches.

GOD Bless President Trump and his family, VP Pence and his family, the Administration, and the USA. And may HE turn those who foment and devise evil from their evil ways, and Bless and protect our nation and our people. Finally, may GOD Bless the Qtree, and treepers everywhere; Wolfm00n and all the authors and posters and lurkers…

May we return to being as “a Cittee Upon A Hill”…

        1. THIS IS BIG… Need a break through.
As D.P. stated earlier, 70% may identify as Christian but the number that are allowing the life of Christ to live in them…

May we return to the fear of the Lord
Holiness born out of Love for our Savior
