Here’s a blast from the past:

Public Service Message

It has been pointed out that all of the rioting is nominally on account of criminals who resisted arrest in one form or another, and someone suggested schools ought to teach people not to resist arrest.

Chris Rock on a similar vein, in 2007

Granted an “ass kicking” isn’t the same as being shot, but both can result from the same stupid act. You may ultimately beat the rap, but you aren’t going to avoid the ride.

A Reminder Of Today’s Big Issue.

Our movement is about replacing a failed and corrupt political establishment with a new government controlled by you, the American People...Our campaign represents a true existential threat, like they’ve never seen before.

Then-Candidate Donald J. Trump

Needs to happen, soon.

Lawyer Appeasement Section

OK now for the fine print.

Please note that our menu has changed, please listen to all of the options.

This is the WQTH Daily Thread. You know the drill. There’s no Political correctness, but civility is a requirement. There are Important Guidelines,  here, with an addendum on 20191110.

We have a new board – called The U Tree – where people can take each other to the woodshed without fear of censorship or moderation.

And remember Wheatie’s Rules:

1. No food fights
2. No running with scissors.
3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.
4. The first rule of gun safety: Don’t let the government take your guns.
5. The gun is always loaded.
5a. If you actually want the gun to be loaded, like because you’re checking out a bump in the night, then it’s empty.
6. Never point the gun at anything you’re not willing to destroy.
7. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
8. Be sure of your target and what is behind it.
9. Social Justice Warriors, ANTIFA pukes, BLM hypocrites, and other assorted varieties of Marxists can go copulate with themselves, or if insufficiently limber, may substitute a rusty wire brush suitable for cleaning the bore of a twelve or ten gauge.

(Hmm a few extras seem to have crept in.)

Coin of The Day

The Wooden Nickel.

No, there was never a wooden nickel–except possibly issued by shops as a “good for five cents in trade” token.

But we do have that old advice to not take any wooden nickels and it’s sound advice.

A lot of people, fourteen days ago, were speculating that Big Things were going to happen over the next thirteen days. I more than half expected it to be baloney, but went along with it, primarily to keep it fresh in people’s minds.

(And because Darwin is cute.)

The thirteen days have passed, and what has happened? RBG has died. And maybe someone is actually going to do something about Hunter Biden…and then again maybe not. Congressional investigations generally turn out to be kabuki theater. Even if someone gets referred to DOJ for prosecution, nothing ever seems to come of it. Look at McCabe, for crying out loud.

In other words, the heat has been turned up a little on the Deep State, but hardly a spectacular, earth-shaking thirteen days.

This all stemmed from ONE person on the internet speculating about what it meant that someone on Durham’s team had quit. And it turned out to be nothing.

I see us doing this a LOT, to be honest, and I’ve been caught myself.

We are rightly skeptical of anything the other side puts out.

But we really need to be cautious about what people who are (or at least appear to be) on our side are putting out too. They could be “controlled opposition.” They could just be self-aggrandizing assholes trying to look smarter than they are (I won’t name names here but there’s a very well known pair of initials). Or they could just have over-active imaginations.

Even people I’ve been told are “reliable” and I shouldn’t label as “just Someone On The Internet” have made statements, pronouncements and predictions that have simply come to nothing.

Look at everything you are told with a critical eye, especially the stuff you are hoping is true.

Obligatory PSA/Reminder

Just one more thing, my standard Public Service Announcement. We don’t want to forget this!!!

Remember Hong Kong!!! And remember the tens of millions who died under the “Great Helmsman” Chairman Mao.

I hope this guy isn’t rotting in the laogai somewhere!

中国是个混蛋 !!!
Zhōngguò shì gè hùndàn !!!
China is asshoe !!!

For my money the Great Helmsman is Hikaru Sulu (even if the actor is a dingbat).

  1. Undoubtedly, ACB’s opinion on the death penalty is an obvious entrance for the vile Demonrats to postulate all kinds of other circumstances where they will conclude that ACB’s rulings will adhere to Catholic teachings instead of U.S. Law or she will recuse herself, thereby nullifying herself in her role as Supreme Court Associate Justice.

However, PTrump certainly knows this and also knows that ACB’s position will be acceptably defensible to the barking and howling of the Demonrat’s attack pack at any hearings.

From Notre Dame Law School NDLScholarship Journal Articles Publications 1998 ‘Catholic Judges in Capital Cases’

“ [W]e believe that Catholic judges (if they are faithful to the teaching of their church) are morally precluded from enforcing the death penalty. This means that they can neither themselves sentence criminals to death nor enforce jury recommendations of death.”

“The moral impossibility of enforcing capital punishment in the first two or three cases (sentencing, enforcing jury recommendations, affirming) is a sufficient reason for recusal under federal law.”

“[T]he principle at stake in capital sentencing is a moral one, not a factual or simply legal one. And the judge is asked to violate it—not to reason from different legal premises to morally unobjectionable conclusions (like Justice Brandeis did in Whitney). There is no way the judge can do his job and obey his conscience. The judge’s conscience tells him to impose a life sentence; federal law directs him to impose death. Because the judge is unable to give the government the judgment to which it is entitled under the law, § 455(b)(1) directs him to disqualify himself.”

    1. The Demoncrats are mostly against the death penalty, though.

So I wouldn’t expect them to attack her on that.

I’m not thrilled about this though…because I think that there are cases where the death penalty is warranted.
Mass murderers and serial killers, for example.

      1. I’d gladly trade the death penalty for ending abortion. Life in prison without parole is suitable. Then taxpayer dollars wouldn’t be spent for decades keeping death row prisoners alive.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. But…with Life-without-parole, we’re paying to keep them alive.

I’m for ending abortion and keeping the death penalty for the depraved killers.

The babies didn’t do anything to deserve a death penalty.
But there are some adults who do.

          1. I know, but IF there was a choice.

Life in prison w/o parole would still end the millions spent on death row inmates trying to get out of a death sentence.

    2. WAIT WAIT WAIT

Catholic teaching – OFFICIAL teaching, not the wishful thinking of a number of prelates including two popes – allows the death penalty. That has never been rescinded because it can’t be.

The choice to avoid it, OTOH, when lifetime incarceration is cheaper and escape proof is another story.

Understand why you hope it happens before you leave – I am happy to be alive at a time such as this – whatever I see before I leave is a blessing – we know where they are going to spend their eternal life – and even though I would like to live to see them punished – if I do not – I take comfort in that.

And – we should thank God daily for shining His light upon us – and bringing us through this turmoil – I believe God will show His Mighty Hand – and Bless America for all she has suffered!!!

              2. I’ve never seen anything like this – the confrontation and exposure of the evil these politicians have done to this country, to the world – for decades. It’s extraordinary.

Reagan did what he could, but he didn’t have the strength to delve into the evil – had to spend his time trying to get some things done. He also was still in the mindset of working things out, compromise, etc. Of course, the Dems weren’t as far gone as they are now.

Now, POTUS is confronting the true enemy which insinuated itself deeper in the decades since Reagan.

He has gained huge numbers – the Dems know this which is why they’re trying to steal the election.

    1. REMINDER

When an investigation like this officially becomes a CRIMINAL investigation, it means a grand jury has been empaneled and subpoena powers are given…

…denoting that enough evidence has been gathered to seek felony indictments.

    1. So, the rationale here is that because PTrump nominated ACB for the position of SCAJ, she, therefore, has a conflict of interest in SC cases that involve the election and must recuse.

      Yeah. Right.

    1. If I remember correctly, a few celebrity parents went to prison for paying for influence to get their kids admitted to Ivy League colleges… way to go Mr. Blum…

      from the article:

      SAN FRANCISCO —

U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s husband, University of California Regent Richard Blum, was named Thursday by the state auditor’s office as one of the regents involved in an admissions scandal where UC wrongly admitted dozens of wealthy, mostly white students as favors to well-connected people.

Among those “inappropriately admitted” were a student whose family was friends with a member of the Board of Regents, the child of a major donor and an applicant who babysat for a colleague of a former admissions director, according to the report released Tuesday by the California State Auditor.

In one case, a regent unidentified in the audit sent an “inappropriate letter of support” directly to the UC Berkeley chancellor on behalf of a student with only a 26% chance of winning a spot off the wait list, despite the policy prohibiting efforts by regents to influence admissions decisions by going around the regular process. The applicant was admitted.

Auditor’s spokeswoman Margarita Fernandez confirmed to The Associated Press that Blum was the regent.

Blum told the San Francisco Chronicle on Thursday that he’s done nothing wrong and that he’s used his clout to get friends and family into the elite public system for years.

So the 11AM news report on 1100WTAM, Cleveland, via ABC news, says that Ole Joe is “doing heavy debate preparation at his home in Delaware” and that POTUS “is not doing any debate preparation; instead, he is going to rely on his record in office”.
One would like very much to know just what kind of “heavy debate preparation” that Ole Joe is supposedly doing —
    like “heavy drugs”, maybe?
    ALSO:
    https://wtam.iheart.com/content/2020-09-26-restrictions-around-debate-site/
A LONG list of items that are prohibited anywhere around the Cleveland Clinic’s Health Education Building lecture hall, the site of the September 29 debate between POTUS and Ole Joe. The article includes another long list of street closures and restrictions around the area.

It appears to me that the Cleveland Clinic building was likely insisted upon by Ole Joe’s handlers in the event of a “just in case” scenario.

    1. Hmmm……
Methinks that perhaps part of the “heavy debate preparation” in Joe Biden’s basement may well include getting KAMALA ready for a “last-minute replacement” on Tuesday. With of course part of that tactic being to get POTUS by surprise. And when he doesn’t play their game, the Biden entourage walks out.
And there’s always the “Joe Biden can’t do the debate since he’s in quarantine because one of his staffers tested positive for the coronavirus” ploy.
Personally I don’t believe for one minute that POTUS isn’t getting ready for the debate.

  5. Yes Steve, I agree that I have not been excited or on the earth shattering “its habbenin” train as far as the 13 days goes. I dont see arrests among hollywood or politicians, ceos, or priests/pastors in enough numbers. But there are definitely wheels moving and some visible positive events.
Still, we’ve had that debate so long, its got to be fresh in the minds of all voters, not just us. Thats the most frustrating part.
Now if nothing happens IMMEDIATELY after the election, my view will change.

      1. OMG, that first one is so cheesy! I’m just starting my analysis and I can’t help but think it’s totally “off”.

Number one step in approaching the problem is to eliminate “begging the question” – the assumption that there was any plane at all. One has to reset to the beginning. What happened?

To do that, sit down for 5 minutes and contemplate the baseline question:

“Did you see the plane hit the building?”

        Either plane – ask deeply….

“Did you yourself actually see the plane hit the building?”

This is how to undo all the programming. This was how the videographic guys began to convince me.

        More later….

If she drives, well then, she’s neglecting to provide her children with the necessary attention a responsible caregiver must provide, as well as demonstrating a domineering predisposition . . . not the kind of behavior we’re looking for in an SC justice.

Anyway, Kayne West in Hati? Not his first trip I’m sure, but any further thoughts he gets called as general witness to destroy Clinton and the dems by association on Hati, if the Dems go there with kids? I don’t think they want to go there with the kids. I’m thinking he may be coming back with a lot stories he wants to share. What a wonderful way to catapult over the press if that happens.

        1. I agree, but I think it would give Dems fodder before the election to blame Pres. Trump and Repubs for ramming the nomination through without giving the Senate the opportunity to “advise and consent” — even though it’s mostly partisan praise and nitpicking that doesn’t change anyone’s mind. But the optics are important, especially with Pres. Trump choosing a nominee this close to the election.

Watch for the DemComs in the Senate to “all of a sudden” not be ‘satisfied” with “only 4 days” and will pull every trick in the book to drag the hearings out until JUST before the elections in November.

People who attended the Prayer March prayed with 7 focuses at 7 sites around the National Mall for specific needs of our people, nation and government.

    7 Focuses of Prayer:

1 – Humbling ourselves in repentance and asking God to forgive our sins and heal our land.

2 – Our military, police and other law enforcement, firefighters, and their families. Security and peace for the nation.

3 – Salvation of the lost. Renewed strength in our families. Frontline medical workers and solutions to the coronavirus pandemic. An end to abortion.

4 – Executive Branch – The president, the vice president and their families. All those who work in the White House and in the executive branch of our government – DOJ, FBI and other agencies under the Executive Branch.

5 – Compassion and kindness toward one another. Respect and reconciliation between races. Healing in communities torn by violence and injustice.

6 – Religious freedom. Boldness for churches to stand firm with the Word of God and to preach Jesus Christ in a troubled world.

7 – Our Congress and other leaders at the national, state and local levels. The Supreme Court and judges across the nation.

      https://www.courthousenews.com/justice-gorsuch-describes-a-day-in-the-life-at-8th-circuit-meeting/
      _________________

Gorsuch continued: “We shake hands every time we gather; we sing one another happy birthday; we have lunch together many times. We don’t talk shop at lunch. Jokes are welcomed. Justice Breyer seems to have a bottomless well of knock-knock jokes; his grandkids are his source, I guess. We have a Christmas party, decorate a Christmas tree; we sing songs together. The law clerks put on a show making fun of us, kind of a satire. It’s a collegial atmosphere.”

He said his typical workday begins with work in the morning at home over coffee. He rides his bike to work and starts reading briefs and writing opinions alone in his chambers, followed by a brown-bag lunch with clerks and staff. At the end of the day, “I bicycle home, throw something on the grill and play Bananagrams with my daughters.”

“It’s a contemplative life, reading briefs, working through problems, questioning assumptions and never taking anything for granted. Reading, reading, reading.”

  10. I enjoy reading stories about the Dems’ dilemma about how to respond to the ACB nomination. They have few choices and almost no power. Some of them are not planning to have the customary meetings with the nominee, to try to delegitimize the process.

“A number of Democrats – from liberals such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts to moderates such as Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado – have publicly stated that they want to use the confirmation process to highlight the outcome of a conservative replacing Ginsburg, particularly on health care. Some Democrats have argued privately that the best way to highlight that issue is at a confirmation hearing that will be watched by millions of voters.”
