Keep Looking Up

Hopefully, every Sunday, you can find something here that will build you up a little . . . give you a smile . . . and add some joy or peace, very much needed in all our lives.

“This day is holy to the Lord your God;
do not mourn nor weep.” . . .

and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared;
for this day is holy to our Lord.
Do not sorrow,
for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

How should Christians react
to the death of evil people?

Christians are often left wondering how they ought to feel when an especially evil person dies. For instance, at the death of Kim Jong Il, Osama bin Laden, or even in history at the death of Hitler, are we to rejoice/celebrate? Interestingly, the authors of the Bible seem to have struggled with this issue as well, with different perspectives being presented in different passages.

First, there is Ezekiel 18:23, “’As surely as I live,’ declares the Lord God, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.’” Clearly, God does not take pleasure in the death of evil people.

Why is this? Why wouldn’t a holy and righteous God take pleasure in evil people receiving the punishment they deserve? Ultimately, the answer would have to be that God knows the eternal destiny of evil people. God knows how horrible eternity in the lake of fire will be.

Similar to Ezekiel 18:23, 2 Peter 3:9 states that God is “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” So, in terms of the eternal destiny of evil people, no, we should not rejoice at their eternal demise. Hell is so absolutely horrible that we should never rejoice when someone goes there.

Second, there is Proverbs 11:10, “When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.” This seems to be speaking of the death of evil people in an earthly/temporal sense.

When there are fewer evil people in the world, the world is a better place. We can rejoice when justice is done, when evil is defeated. A mass murderer being removed from the world is a good thing.

God has ordained governments (and the military) as instruments of judgment against evil. When evil people are killed [referring to lawbreakers, specifically], whether in the judicial system via the death penalty, or whether through military means, it is God’s justice being accomplished (Romans 13:1-7). For justice being done, and for evil people being removed from this world, yes, we can rejoice.

There are many other scriptures that could be discussed:

Deuteronomy 32:43 – “Rejoice with him, O heavens; bow down to him, all gods, for he avenges the blood of his children and takes vengeance on his adversaries. He repays those who hate him and cleanses his people’s land.”

Job 31:29 – If I have rejoiced at the ruin of him who hated me, or exulted when evil overtook him . . .

Psalm 58:10 – The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked.

Proverbs 17:5, 24:17-18 – Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.

Jeremiah 11:20 – But, O Lord of hosts, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, let me see your vengeance upon them, for to you have I committed my cause.

Ezekiel 33:11 – Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?

but Ezekiel 18:23 and Proverbs 11:10 are likely sufficient to help us achieve this difficult biblical balance.

Yes, we can rejoice when evil is defeated, even if that includes the death of evil people. Ridding the world of evil people is a good thing. At the same time, we are not to rejoice at the eternal condemnation of evil people.

God does not desire that evil people spend eternity in the lake of fire, and He definitely does not rejoice when they go there. Neither should we.

As sort of a wrap-up here . . . if we claim to be Christians, we claim to be followers of Christ. So what did Christ have to say that might bear on this issue?

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”

Love, bless and pray for . . . difficult tasks? Surely. Impossible for imperfect humans. But those are our goals and those goals should be foremost on our minds as we work through not just this particular situation, but those that we will with certainty encounter in the future.

This is our role. God has got the vengeance and justice side of this equation well in hand.

Jeremiah 9:23-24 Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”

  2. H/T RAH

    Truckers report;
First off Cali the beagle is doing great. Has the cone of shame off now and is her usual bouncy mischievous self though her endurance is still down a bit.

First run: Out at 05:00 Monday morning bound for Crawfordsville, IN with an empty trailer. At Stant Corporation I was loaded with auto parts. Took the parts up to Spring Lake, MI which is off I-96 west of Grand Rapids near the shore of Lake Michigan. Delivered the parts there and then was loaded with parts bound for the plant in Crawfordsville.

Took my 10 hour break at a rest area off I-96 west of Grand Rapids. Had a couple more hours to drive when I pulled in but because of traffic and construction I deemed it more efficient to stop early for my break and pass through the Kalamazoo area in the early morning hours. Worked out well.

Delivered to Crawfordsville, then took the empty trailer back to the yard in Anderson, IN. Dropped the trailer, fueled the truck and went home.

Second run: Departed Anderson at 10:00 Wednesday with an empty trailer. Took the trailer to Dunkirk, IN and dropped it then hooked to a trailer preloaded with new empty glass jars as you EaSmucker’s mixed peanut butter and Jelly sold in. These loads are heavy. They run about 42,000 lb.

This load didn’t deliver directly to Smucker’s but instead went to a warehouse a few miles away from the Smucker’s plant in the hills of north central PA. So it was up US 35 to catch US 27 then turn east on US 224 to US 30 to Mansfield, OH where I got on I-71 north to I-76east to I-80 east. Took my 10 hour break at a rest stop on I-80 then drove on in arriving at the warehouse 15 minutes before my 07:00 appointment.

After I backed into the door to be unloaded that guy came out and said that the Bill of Lading was incorrect but the jars in the trailer were correct. IOW the shipping clerk at Dunkirk had me hook to the correct trailer but had given me the wrong bills.

The guy gave me their fax number and email so I could call back to my company and have them get Dunkirk to send the correct Bill of Lading. He told me he would not unload me until he had the correct BOL.

I made the necessary phone calls and gave them the right info for transmitting the bills and told them I would not be unloaded until the consignee received the correct BOL.

I called once an hour and was told each time “we’re working on it”. Finally after 5 1/2 hours I called and told them if they didn’t get me out of here in the next hour I would not have the duty hours to do the two pickups I was scheduled for that day. In less than 1/2 hour they had the correct bills.

Once unloaded I took the empty trailer to Phillipsburg, PA and picked up a few pallets of auto parts and then on up to Ridgeway, PA where they loaded me with 17 pallets of sintered metal auto parts. The place at Ridgeway has truck parking so I took my 10 hour break there. They at least have porta potties for the drivers. When I woke up my fuel gage read empty when I should have had 1/2 my fuel left.

I went out in the dark with my flash light and found a reed and sticked the larger right tank and sure enough it was about 1/2 full. The fuel sensor was malfunctioning. I turned the truck off and turned off the master power switch and sat for a few minutes then turned it back on and started the truck. That resets all the digital sensors. The fuel gage read 1/2 as it should have.

I delivered the load to the terminal in Vandalia, OH and then took the empty trailer back to Anderson, IN and dropped it. I fueled the truck and did a very complete inspection of it, added some oil. drained water from the DAVCO fuel filter, purged the water from the four air tanks, etc. Then I took the time to do some cleaning on the inside. I walked into the house at 14:30. So another week with a day of OT pay.

      1. That has been the problem all along, hasn’t it, FG&C – declaring life begins at conception – and ‘It is a Child – Not a Choice’ !

Is that what they call ‘Personhood’? I never really did understand that – no question in my mind.

        1. Some verses about being formed in the womb, and fearfully made:

          Jeremiah 1:5:

5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

          Psalm 139:13-16:

13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.

14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

          Interesting one, this, Psalm 58:3:

3 The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

          Psalm 127:1-5:

127 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

And somewhat of a reproof for those who are “elite” and care neither for children nor GOD:
          Ecclesiastes 11:5:

5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

          Isaiah 44:2:

2 Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

          Isaiah 44:24-28:

          24 Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

          25 That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

26 That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:

27 That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:

28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

    1. you would know the answer to this question phoenix…
has the new SCOTUS year started?
will the newly appointed justice be able to weigh in on decisions if he/she is not seated before the oral arguments are heard??
thinking about the election…if they can delay the seating of the new justice till after the election…when lawsuits are surely going to be filed and heard, will that person be restricted from voting on the issue?

      1. I believe among the first things they do is determine what cases they will hear…then there’s a period of case preparation before the cases are brought before the court. It seems as though a new Justice could get caught up quickly.

Nevertheless, another future possibility (that I had never heard of!)…a name to watch.

    1. Labor of love.

$100 says this was not mandated but rather insisted upon by the carpenters (workers) themselves.

And not only is it fitting, it is entirely appropriate.

God bless their labor and elevate it to the highest qualities of the old masters themselves, that we may look upon the work and see the glory of the Most High reflected in it.

      1. Actually, the French Parliament decreed that the roof would be rebuilt EXACTLY as it was before the fire. The structure was so well documented, it’s not going to be difficult to achieve.

But, yes, it is a labor of love with carpenters like that.

        Liked by 10 people

        1. Did the decree say merely that the structure had to be exactly the same (which in itself would be an accomplishment) or that the methods and techniques had to be the same?

It certainly looks like they’re intending to use the same methods and techniques here–whether the carpenters insisted on it or whether someone told them to do it (which doesn’t preclude the possibility that they were glad to be told) is another question.

Of course even that only goes so far. I’m sure the tools weren’t hand made as they would have been in medieval times. They’ll be able to work faster and better, probably, as a consequence, once they get over the learning curve of learning how people did things back then.

I’m enough of a history buff to appreciate this sort of thing even though I am not Catholic nor even Christian.

(We can do a lot today that we could not do back then, but it’s still pretty astounding what we could accomplish back then given time and a LOT of labor.)

            1. Yikes, that could be a problem! Quarries do play out.

Nothing to do with this since I am sure porphyry wasn’t used for such a mundane application, but purple or imperial porphyry (which was used all over Italy, most prominently in St. Peter’s [yeah that’s not technically Italy but roll with me here], and probably in other countries as well) only came from one place in Egypt (and was very difficult to work). That location was forgotten for centuries, to be rediscovered in 1823, but sometimes porphyry would be taken from one structure, e.g., a column in a ruined Roman bath, and used in another.

Of course, to the degree that happens with US companies in China Trump will “confiscate” Chinese assets here in the US.

Being communists, the Chinese will wage war upon Trump (ie. us) until they are FORCED to surrender….one way (economically) or another (kinetically).

        Have no fear.

Trump will be re-elected, and China will lose. God loathes communists, and the presence of Trump shows that the Lord is not ready to allow the darkness that will overtake the world to take over just yet.

Both Trump and Reagan went after their money, Reagan by collapsing the price of oil when the USSR was utterly dependent on that revenue, Trump by cutting off the Chinese ability to sell us cheap (and cheaply made) crap.

        1. The main distinguishing feature of monitors is long necks. They also don’t have spines on the backs (like iguanas) and look pretty well undecorated. They can be somewhat colorful as younglings and may have patterns of spots or even rings on them. Large lizards with long necks are going to be monitors. (But not all monitors are large, and not all large lizards are monitors.)

Of course the most famous monitor is the Komodo dragon, but the Rock Monitor (also known as the blackthroat) is kept as a pet, there are also water monitors, crocodile monitors, Nile and savannah monitors, Perenties, and Ackies (the Ackies are small).

            1. Fair enough!

I was basing my statement on their appearance, not their apparent size. They don’t look like iguanas or tegus (other lizards know to get big). It’s a blurry enough video that I could well be wrong too.

Strengthen my faith, Lord. Forgive my sins, so that I may be clean in your righteousness. Make me brave, so I can stand and fight the spiritual battles in my life and in our world. Give me your wisdom and discernment so I won’t be caught off guard. Together, Lord, we’ll win, because in truth, you already have. While evil still roams, the power of Your name and Your blood rises up to defeat and bring us victory against every evil planned against us. While malicious actions may disturb us, we use the armor of God You have given us to stand firm. You will bring justice in due time for all the harm and needless violence aimed at Your children. Until then, we remain in Your presence, aligned with Your purposes, and we look to You as our Supreme Commander and Protector. Help us to avoid temptation, and deliver us from evil, Lord. You are the Mighty One, the One Who will ultimately bring all evil to light. With You, Jesus, we are safe. Amen.

So what I wrote could apply to ANY name that has been bandied about (other than sitting senators, who of course would be judged by the other senators who know them well anyway).

Used by christians to denote other christians who they are attempting to insult or belittle in a passive aggressive, virtue signaling way (ie. “I’m so much more righteous than “they” are). Of course, it’s so “christian” to do this, isn’t it?

I am also amused by the total ignorance or worse…intentionally overlooking…of the fact that many are as but children in their faith vs. the full maturity all are working towards.

Of course, anyone who would use “christians” in this manner cannot be mature christians themselves. Not possible.

Did the D’s seem surprised to you to hear of RBG’s death? There might be a reason. The announcement comes from the Supreme Court. Justice Roberts. It may not have been part of THEIR plan to release this now. So Why did Justice Roberts release it now? Maybe because of his connection to Epstein was starting to come out? Remember John Roberts of FOX mentioning he had nothing to with Epstein this week? He, Justice Roberts, may have been “given no choice” by Pres. Trump. WE knew she was dead for a while and the D’s were hoping to keep it secret longer… closer to the election so THEY could have the possible 4 vs 4 dead lock on the Presidential election certification and dead locks of cases of voting issues coming before the Court. This would give the D’s a better chance at the contested election THEY wanted. So is Justice Roberts controlled now? Time will tell. What will THEY do if the heads of THEIR mercenaries and financial support for them is also cut off? What do THEY do if THEIR inside man, FBI Director Chris Wray, is fired and replaced, and can’t be used to stop the destruction of THEIR mercenaries and release of DECLAS material?

    1. So do suspicions that not only was RBG deceased some time ago, but ALSO that Chief Justice Roberts was one of the key players in the cover-up AND kept the rest of the Supreme Court ignorant, may be in fact, reality? It would appear to be beyond the realm of possibility that EVERY Justice on the Supreme Court would be intimidated / snookered / bribed, into pretending for MONTHS that she was still extant.
On the other hand, if C. J. Roberts were owned by, say, the Soros-Clinton Axis, it would be quite possible to design and implement a “comprehensive” scheme to cover up an earlier demise of RBG, and ALSO pull the wool over the eyes of his colleagues on the Court.
In which case, WATCH for any number of “expendable” underlings meeting their Maker in various
** interesting ** ways, to make sure nobody tells the tale.

      1. I recall that during the Kavanaugh hearings, before his confirmation, Kavanaugh received protection. I have done a little research, can’t find what agency was protecting him BEFORE he was sworn in, BUT, after he became a Justice, he would have rec’d the same as other members of SCOTUS… found this online…

“… The original question is “Do the Justices of the Supreme Court receive protection from the Secret Service?”

        The short answer is no.

And unlike most members of the federal judiciary, they do not receive protection from the United States Marshals Service either.

Their protection is provided by the Supreme Court Police, one of the smallest federal agencies.

The Supreme Court Police is lead by the Marshal of the United States Supreme Court. The duties of the Marshal are similar to the court officer aspects of the United States Marshal in any of the 94 United States judicial court districts. This said, This Marshal has no association with the United States Marshals Service. In the history of the position (created in 1867), there have been ten Marshals. By statute, the Marshal is appointed by the Supreme Court and serves at their discretion.

The force itself, currently numbering about 125, is responsible for security of the court building, its inhabitants, and it visitors. Additionally, they provide personal protection to the Justices at all times. In many ways, their mission, training, and authority is similar to that of the judicial security role of the United States Marshals Service. I would fully expect that a large number of the members of this force have been cross-deputized by the Marshals Service to increase their authority and jurisdiction.”
Her protection detail would have known something… and thus others higher up the food chain. /phoenix

they wee and continue to paint the narrative that not all absentee ballots will be returned in time. This in turn was used to pass temporarily legislation, just for the 2020 NOV election in at least one state.

They moved the deadline date forward by 2 weeks to receive absentee ballot applications.

But if you request one electronically, you can receive an electronic ballot. Just for this election. For those selected few who know about the law change only…..

By mid-Oct they will have a clue on how the election is going and take a good guess how many electronic ballots to request at the last minute in the names of voters who never or rarely vote.

Homeland Security needs to be all over this.

    Oh, wait DOJ isn’t interested….

      1. The even better news is that POTUS has the powers of the Stafford Act…which has been LEGALLY and LAWFULLY activated.

POTUS also knows their full playbook.

        They will fail.

        As usual.

        Hence their desperation and panic.

Which is exquisitely delicious given it is THEY who are literally making war upon our Republic and our Constitution.

  13. Another wonderful lying Biden ad on Hallmark. The ad says that PTrump is looking to roll back the protections that preexisting conditions have in healthcare. The person or actor says that “It’s mind-blowing”.

It’s really pitiful that some action can’t be taken by a body such as the FEC when any candidate puts bald-faced lies into their political advertisements.

    1. The entire Corporate Media is lying… about the numbers, saying Biden is leading or neck and neck…

makes it easier for their base to believe the election was ‘stolen’ when POTUS wins…

I have to work hard to keep the bad thoughts down… simply not able to LOVE the enemy… that’s for sure.

  14. HOW LONG will the Democrats and media continue the farce that Biden is a viable candidate?

Sooner or later something will cause their teetering house of cards to come crashing down.

    1. It’s estimated that 200 million people will die, probably, by the time I finish this talk.

Joe, I’m sure you’re a wretched public speaker by now, but surely you can’t be THAT bad.

On the other hand, there is that bit about slaying people with the jawbone of an ass.

      1. Democrats, esp. Schumer, Schiff, Pelosi, Biden, Clinton, Øbominable, the Squad (and Romney)… They all just get in front of cameras and say stuff. Most of the time it’s got no proximity to truth or viable policies.

    2. reminds one of “the Emperor has no clothes” … takes a child to point it out…

but, how many of the recent presidents were more than an empty suit? for the Deep State, only a warm body is required… they make the decisions…

Big corporations hire lawyers to write legislation benefiting them, it’s handed over to Congress critters who never even read it, who are paid to vote yes… lobbyists are seldom even in the picture anymore, the whole process has become so refined.

last time I looked, DIMs are not alone in pretending that Joe is awake… lots of GOPe and Never Trumpers also

    3. Maybe Biden knows something that we do not know how many people will die? My concern had been that China releases another virus because the first one was released without much consequences in the bigger picture.
Hope that Biden only had a brain stall and confusion.

36 persons in VIRGINIA have been either temporarily OR PERMANENTLY barred from owning or purchasing firearms since the new Virginia “Red Flag” law that took effect on July 1.
Of that total, 26 persons are under “temporary” restrictions; and the remaining 10 persons are under PERMANENT restrictions.

This is what happens when “VIRGINIA GENTLEMEN Republicans”, the “go along to get along” type that were in the Virginia Legislature for DECADES, until the DemComs took over BOTH chambers in the 2019 elections — finally wake up and see what happens after being “nice guys” to dictators.

The UK economy magically bounced back after the lockdowns. The US magically bounced back after the lockdowns. When you shutdown an economy artificially and turn it back on it bounces back. The patriots are now started an economic avalanche that cannot be stopped. The plan is now coming into focus. The events have failed and the people are waking up, time to clog the news cycle and change the narrative. The [DS] fell right into the trap again. Trump and the patriots are now ready to counter the election chaos. Watch what happens next, a new justice is coming. The senate was always the key, the patriots are in control.
