20200918: MAGA Peaceful Protest, Bemidji, Minnesota

First question…how does one pronounce “Bemidji”?

Wiki says: Bemidji (/bəˈmɪdʒiː/ bə-MIJ-ee)

Works for me.

Okay, here we go:

As a central city for three Indian reservations, Bemidji is the site of many Native American services, including the Indian Health Service. Near Bemidji are the Red Lake Indian ReservationWhite Earth Indian Reservation, and the Leech Lake Indian Reservation. Bemidji lies on the southwest shore of Lake Bemidji, the northernmost lake feeding the Mississippi River; it is nicknamed “The First City on the Mississippi”. Bemidji is also the self-proclaimed “curling capital” of the U.S. and the alleged birthplace of legendary Paul Bunyan….

Its name derives from the OjibweBuh-mid-ji-ga-maug (Double-Vowel orthographybemijigamaag),[6] meaning “a lake with crossing waters”. On occasion, in Ojibwe, Bemidji is called Wabigamaang (“at the lake channel/narrows”), because part of the city is situated on the Lakes Bemidji/Irving narrows, on the south end of Lake Bemidji, and extends to the eastern shore of Lake Irving. Some sources say that Chief Bemidji, an Ojibwe leader, is the namesake.[7]

Bemidji Township was surveyed by European Americans in 1874. It was organized in 1896, 24 days after the village of Bemidji was chartered, and is the oldest township in the county. In 1897, the county attorney declared the original Bemidji township organization illegal (no reason given) and the township reorganized on June 26, 1897.[8]

About 50 Leech Lake Indians lived along the south shore of the lake prior to the 1880s. They called the lake Bemidjigumaug, meaning “river or route flowing crosswise”. Freeman and Besty Doud claimed 160 acres west of and including present-day Diamond Point; they were Bemidji’s first homesteaders.

Art Lee created the story that the folkloric figure Paul Bunyan came from the Northwoods. Tales about Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox led to public sculptures of them in the 1930s.[citation needed] According to Discover America, the Paul and Babe statues are “the second most photographed statues in America,” surpassed only by Mount Rushmore.[9] The Rotarians of Bemidji commissioned the statue of Paul Bunyan during the Great Depression as a tourist attraction. It was unveiled on January 15, 1937, to kick off a Winter Carnival that drew more than 10,000 visitors.

Hey, every place has to have a claim to fame, right?

Today Bemidji is an important educational, governmental, trade and medical center for north central Minnesota. The wood industry is still a significant part of the local economy, with Georgia-Pacific, Potlatch, and Northwood Panelboard all having waferboard plants in the local area. They use wood species that were once classified as waste trees.[10]

I’ll add live links to this post during the late afternoon as they become available.

  1. POTUS just called out Biden as UNFIT to be President!
Now calling out “:OMAR” ELMI! “How did she get away with that?”
Going after AOC. “All of the sudden she had $2 Million dollars and spent it with her boyfriend. How did she do that? She spent it on dresses, rent, other things.”
POTUS is racing from one topic to another — got to run the brain to keep up with him!
“YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO TO WAR.”
“FIND OUT WHO THE ‘SOMEBODY’ IS WHO’S FUNDING ANTIFA.”

    1. CV, POTUS doesn’t bring up anything without purpose. If he hasn’t forgotten about Omar, that means he’s making sure someone else hasn’t forgotten.

BTW, did you see where POTUS tweeted that he is going to hold a “big rally” in Virginia soon?

  2. 33k emails – about Yoga – she is not into Yoga – is she is – she is wasting her money – her daughter’s wedding

What about all of those possible classified emails – we will give her about 200 on Yoga and the Wedding –

Hammer – Acid Wash – I never do that – and I am President – she gets a subpoena – she deletes – washes – and everything is busted up – think about how angry it makes me when I say it.

They allowed her to get away with that – they are available – and they are in the State Department

I messed up, I’m a loyal person, I went to Mobile, was endorsed early (by Sessions), he asked over & over for job, I’m a loyal person & gave him job…He should’ve never let her get away with that!

I guarantee you emails are in State Dept, and they better damn well find them

    1. Was just telling hubby that, Duchess. Three weeks ago, out of the blue, (I thought it strange at the time as he had a previous list…) so they likely had to tell him that she was near death.

She has gone to her reward – having adamantly supported the killing of millions of babies by abortion/infanticide. And she was Jewish, one would have thought she’d have understood what she was doing.

      1. There was something very wrong with her thinking – about gender – equality – life – her whole agenda was evil to the core.

Agree – he was told – but, it may be this is something he is required to do – and Biden is, too – but, no list from him.

        1. She apparently dictated some final thoughts to her granddaughter shortly before her death. Included was the comment that she didn’t want her replacement in there until a new president was sworn in.

What hubris. Ginsberg could have left with grace and dignity months ago – instead her own selfishness will add to the chaos of the election.

It’s unfortunate when judges, politicians, anyone thinks they’re more than the country. It’s clear that set herself quite high.

POTUS has a duty to nominate, and senate confirm. BTW, someone just made a good point to Schweikart – we need the Justice replaced – considering that election issues could end up in the high court.

McConnell has already said a nominee will be put forth on the Senate floor and there will be a vote.

Let them all posture as they will.

  4. The entire next week will be devoted to the funeral – about what they will be talking – Supreme Court Justice – BIG DEAL – entire last week of the month – the Budget – the negotiations – end of the government year!

    1. As usual, the timing is just impeccable.

The difference here is that as she is Jewish, she would be buried probably on Sunday (day after tomorrow) if the law is observed. They won’t do it on the Sabbath.

It’s not like a Christian burial where you can hold a body for weeks if it is embalmed.

        1. Yes, and in this case, it is not possible. My grandfather’s best friend it was two days. Our vet’s dad was the same. That’s about average, and that’s if they’ve paid the membership to the congregation.

I would imagine all arrangements were in the works.

            1. That’s what Shiva is for. They sit for two weeks and accept condolences. And there’s rules for that, too. Don’t speak until spoken to, There’s something about the food. Don’t remember off the top of my head.

              It’s just different.

          1. Who knows, Syl? From what I understand – you must pay your dues (money) – no way we would know – if so – they will take care of her – too secular – but, there are so many different kinds – hard to tell what is acceptable – if you know what I mean.

              1. They go to the cemetery, and usually the dead person is in an unfinished pine box. I’m not sure about the prayers involved, but they lower the box, essentially, into the ground and all the people in attendance put a shovel’s worth of dirt on top. Everyone I know who had done it has said it’s very final, very closing.

Again, due to Mrs. Ginsburg being a Supreme Court justice there might be other ceremonial things, but death is not elaborate for the Jews…unlike Catholics where lunch after the funeral and cemetery is just another excuse for a party.

              2. Yep. Were it pickled-losi, they could just throw a match on it and have a barbeque…

[sorry… that mafiosi Piglosi is fit for the flames unless she repents]…

            1. Nope. I’ve known way too many over the years.

And, frankly, we Catholics are supposed to wake the next night, maybe two, and bury the day after. But, it’s become a thing to wait a few days to get people in town. My dad’s mother was a wait thing. My mother’s parents, one died on a Friday, the other on Saturday and both were buried Monday morning.

              1. Funerals are like that – if a close family member lives far away – they would wait. I meant – your experience with Jewish funerals – must be done quickly and quietly.

              1. Yes. BUT, being Catholic, he was embalmed. The rumor was he was creamated, but the casket was too heavy for that to have happened. You could see the strain on the men carrying it. Plus, the funeral ceremony is a little different.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the demure firebrand who in her 80s became a legal, cultural and feminist icon, died Friday. The Supreme Court announced her death, saying the cause was complications from metastatic cancer of the pancreas.

The court, in a statement, said Ginsburg died at her home in Washington surrounded by family. She was 87.

Slow Joe being further left in the dust 🙂

    1. Think about this Sylvia – with the SC nomination situation, they’re going to have to have Biden come out and campaign, and Biden can’t! He’s really done for. Harris isn’t good the campaign trail either.
