Waiting with Patience

February 23, 2018 by Pastor Chuck Swindoll
Scriptures: Psalm 26:9–12

As David concludes his song about the grinding pain of unjust treatment and his chosen responses, he then commits to patience.

Resolved: I will patiently stand and wait for relief.

Do not take my soul away along with sinners,
Nor my life with men of bloodshed,
In whose hands is a wicked scheme,
And whose right hand is full of bribes.
But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity;
Redeem me, and be gracious to me.
My foot stands on a level place;
In the congregations I shall bless the LORD. (Psalm 26:9–12)

There is something about human nature that prompts us to jump in with both feet and quickly work things out. In this section of his song, David implies that such was the activity of those around him. The majority said that they “wouldn’t stand for such a thing.” All sorts of “wicked schemes” and hands “full of bribes” were implemented by others. Not David! He set himself apart with the phrase “but as for me.” In Hebrew, the pronoun is extremely emphatic: “But me . . . as for me!”

He wanted it known that, unlike the majority, he wasn’t going to panic and get all involved in those carnal anxieties and ulcer-producing activities of self-vindication. No way! What does he say? “I shall walk in my integrity.” And he calls upon God to act on his behalf.

There’s a calmness, a quiet confidence in those words.

  • As for my present course: “I . . . walk in integrity.”
  • As for my defense: “Redeem me . . . be gracious to me.”
  • As for my inner feelings: “My foot stands.”

What stability! What admirable patience! What assurance and faith! No sleepless nights, no struggling doubts—just patient waiting.

Look back at that term “redeem.” The Hebrew is padah, meaning “to ransom, deliver.” It is a term of relief—as if in exile. It is the idea of delivering someone from terrible stress and even death. And don’t miss that intriguing phrase in verse 12: “My foot stands on a level place.” The phrase “level place” comes from a single Hebrew term, mishore, which can be traced back to the verb yashar, meaning “to be smooth, straight.” The first term mishore means “level country, a plain.” It conveys the idea of a place that has a high, commanding view, a broad range of vision in contrast to a place that is down in a deep gorge all shut in.

Do you get the picture? David is pleased to wait quietly on the Lord and remain objective. When he waits for God to deliver him, he maintains a panoramic perspective; he is able to look upon the entire process from God’s viewpoint, not from his own limited human perspective. In brief, he is able to maintain wisdom.

You can anticipate the application. When we patiently wait on the Lord’s deliverance, we are able to stay calm, objective, and wise in the midst of mistreatment. We can count on our Lord to be gracious and to deliver us at the right time. All the while, waiting enables us to maintain His perspective.

Look back over David’s six resolutions that will help make mistreatment bearable:

  1. I will be open before the Lord.
  2. I will remember His love . . . continue to obey His Word.
  3. I will refuse the temptation to get even.
  4. I will maintain a positive attitude.
  5. I will be faithful in public worship.
  6. I will patiently stand, stay objective, and wait for relief.

7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

  4. From wiki:

USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, and the third ship of the United States Navy to bear the name.[2] She was named in honor of John Paul Jones’ famous frigate, which he had named in French “Good Man Richard,” in honor of Benjamin Franklin, the U.S. Ambassador to France at the time; “Richard” is derived from Franklin’s Poor Richard’s Almanac.

The primary mission of Bonhomme Richard is to embark, deploy and land elements of a Marine landing force in amphibious assault operations by helicopter, landing craft and amphibious vehicle, and if needed, to act as a light aircraft carrier.

Bonhomme Richard is currently in active service and is the flagship for Expeditionary Strike Group Three.[3]

          1. Fire of this magnitude inport, accurate by my knowledge.

Fires or flooding on aircraft carriers, including LHA, like BHR, not uncommon. Incredibly complex machines. At-sea or in-port. Fires and flooding normally quite small and easily contained, stopped. These events rarely make the news. Simply not news worthy as they are most always minor and not uncommon.

Is this BHR fire suspect? Absolutely. Could this fire be negligence by a maintenance crew? Absolutely.

Timing is bad. Sunday, reduced manning. Duty section probably just changed. Normally somewhere in the 7Am to 8AM range. Ship’s differ.

Coming out of a maintenance availability, maintenance actions continue. Evidenced by numerous containers on flight deck. Ongoing maintenance AND ship equipment upgrades.

This sort of time frame, (significant ship’s maintenance) fire fighting equipment and supporting material is too often not 100% where it ought to be. Not saying this is a major factor in stopping the fire. But, possibly contributing. I am not familiar with LHA layout.

On the chopping block Executive Officer, Chief Engineer, DCA (Damage Control – among other primary responsibilities Fire Chief on ships).

Will be interesting to see what caused the explosion. What contributed to its spread – difficulty to contain. Sabotage? Material improperly placed? Missing, faulty fire fighting equipment? Crew training? Duty section fire party training? Sprinkler systems in spaces on fire function properly? Shut down for maintenance?

This Sunday Stars at Third Fleet, SURFPAC both San Diego, as well as Pacific Fleet and Pacific Command in Hawaii are not happy. BHR, a National asset crippled for months at best.

Yea, heads WILL roll. And they should. Biggest question for me right now, what caused the explosion.
Sabotage or stoopidity. At this point I’d bet stoopidity.

    1. I’m not sure it’s that clean-cut. I never see the word “legal” used in relation to this.
What Happens If A Presidential Nominee Can No Longer Run For Office?
Let’s tackle that first scenario — something happens to either Biden or Trump before their respective conventions. In the case of the Democratric nomination, that would all of a sudden open up the race, according to Lara Brown, director of the Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University. The delayed primaries would become far more relevant, and this could create a free-for-all with Sen. Bernie Sanders and the other candidates. “Let’s face it, none of the candidates have officially withdrawn,” said Brown. “They’ve all just suspended [their campaigns].”

But if tragedy didn’t strike until the convention, Biden delegates would have to choose someone else to support.1 Richard Pildes, a constitutional law professor at the New York University School of Law, stressed, however, that even under normal circumstances, the Democratic delegates are technically free “on the first ballot to vote their conscience.”

      1. They will do what they always do.

They will begin with the desired outcome in mind (e.g., Hitlery as their candidate, because she’s the most ruthless and murderous).

Then they work backwards to smooth out (buy off, blackmail or Arkancide) any obstacles to their desired outcome.

Rinse and repeat as many times as necessary.

        It’s what they always do.

This is Hitlery’s last chance, she’s been living on stolen time since before the last election. She isn’t going to let anyone deny her again.

There’s a better chance that Big Mike gets Arkancided on a Clinton campaign flight that crashes into the Vince Foster Memorial at Fort Marcy Park than there is that Big Mike becomes the presidential candidate. (IMO, of course 😁)

    2. As SD has reminded us many times, these ‘parties’ (Republi-Con and Devilrat departments of the Uni-Party) are private clubs who make their own rules and change them whenever necessary to achieve their own objectives.

So there is nothing to prevent the Devil Party from doing whatever they want, internally speaking.

The only thing which could be an obstacle is election law.

So what does election law say about this?

Not that it really matters, because the Devil Party exempts itself from law all the time.

If the law says they can’t replace Joe with Hitlery (for example), and they do it anyway, who is going to stop them?

Not until the ‘spell’ is broken, the ‘spell’ that allows democrats to operate in an alternate universe where reality and law don’t apply, and the only way that ‘spell’ gets broken is if Trump ever drops the hammer and pulls the curtain back on the whole global crime syndicate.

  13. Brandon Waltens: Montgomery and Llano County are the latest to pass resolutions censuring Governor Abbott. Others, including Denton and Hood County, are reportedly preparing to consider similar resolutions in the upcoming days.

Momentum Building as More County GOPs Formally Censure Abbott
While Montgomery County is not the first to pass a resolution censuring Abbott, they are by far the largest.
    By Brandon Waltens | July 9, 2020

Efforts by Republican grassroots to formally rebuke Gov. Greg Abbott for his string of unilateral executive orders in response to the Chinese coronavirus are gaining momentum, as the Montgomery County GOP unanimously approved a censure resolution on Wednesday, and several other counties are set to consider similar efforts.

In a 40-0 vote, members of the Montgomery County Republican Party’s executive committee voted to approve a resolution officially censuring Abbott for “creating law via executive order,” citing the $295 million deal to bring contact tracing to Texas, his statewide mask mandate, and executive orders that closed down certain businesses.

While Montgomery County is not the first county to pass a resolution censuring Abbott, they are by far the largest. The suburban Houston-area county is home to more than 607,000 residents and is the 11th-most populous county in the state. It’s also the second-largest Republican county in the state.

On the same evening, Llano County also passed a resolution censuring Abbott. West Texas’ Ector County and East Texas’ Harrison County have already passed similar resolutions.

Other county parties, including those of Denton and Hood County, are reportedly preparing to consider similar resolutions in the upcoming days. These resolutions will be considered during the upcoming Republican Party of Texas convention next week.

A goal of party activists for years, the party’s censure rule was passed at the Texas GOP’s 2016 convention and provides an opportunity for Republicans frustrated with their elected Republican lawmakers to formally reprimand them for violating “core principles” of the party.

Delegates to the 2018 RPT convention successfully censured former State Rep. Byron Cook of Corsicana after the State Republican Executive Committee similarly censured then-Speaker of the Texas House Joe Straus earlier that year.

The full Montgomery County resolution can be read below:

“WHEREAS, the preamble of Platform of the Republican Party of Texas declares, ‘We strive to preserve the freedom given to us by God, implemented by our Founding Fathers, and embodied in the Constitution’; and

“WHEREAS, Rule 44 of the Republican Party of Texas allows the party to censure a Republican office holder who takes three or more actions during a biennium in opposition to the core principles of the Republican Party of Texas platform; and
