Dear KMAG: 20200531 Open Topic

Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.

God is in Control

Keep Looking Up

Hopefully, every Sunday, you can find something here that will build you up a little . . . give you a smile . . . and add some joy or peace, very much needed in all our lives.

“This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn nor weep.” . . . “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Our Wondrous Hope!

What gives a widow courage as she stands beside a fresh grave?

What is the ultimate hope of the disabled, the amputee, the abused, the burn victim?

How can the parents of children who have brain damage or physical handicaps keep from living their entire lives totally and completely depressed?

Why would anyone who is blind or deaf or paralyzed be encouraged when he or she thinks of the life beyond?

How can we see past the martyrdom of some helpless hostage or devoted missionary?

Where do the thoughts of a young couple go when they finally recover from the grief of losing their baby?

When a family receives the tragic news that a little daughter was found dead or their dad was killed in a plane crash or a son overdosed on drugs, what single truth becomes their whole focus?

What is the final answer to pain, mourning, senility, insanity, terminal diseases, sudden calamities, and fatal accidents?

The answer to each of these questions is the same: the hope of bodily resurrection.

We draw strength from this single truth almost every day of our lives—more than we realize. It becomes the mental glue that holds our otherwise shattered thoughts together. Impossible though it may be for us to understand the details of how God is going to pull it off, we hang our hopes on fragile, threadlike thoughts that say, “Someday, He will make it right” and “Thank God, all this will change” and “When we’re with Him, we shall be like Him.”

More than a few times a year I look into red, swollen eyes and remind the despairing and the grieving that “there’s a land that is fairer than day” when, as John promised in the Revelation,

“He will wipe away every tear . . . there will no longer be any death . . . any mourning, or crying, or pain.” . . . There will no longer be any curse . . . any night . . . because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever. (21:4; 22:3, 5)

Hooray for such wondrous hope!

Just imagine . . . those who are physically disabled today will one day dance in beautiful coordination and leap in ecstatic joy. Those who spend their lives absorbed in total darkness will see every color in the spectrum of light. In fact, the first face they will see will be of the One who gives them sight. And those precious souls whose minds and emotions are limited by mental disability, disease, or old age will enjoy to the full unhindered and uninhibited relationships. It’s enough to put a smile on any weary face. There’s nothing like the hope of resurrection to lift the agonizing spirits of the heavyhearted.

Unless, of course, it’s all a cruel hoax.

That’s Paul’s whole point in 1 Corinthians 15:19. Remember how he put it? If bodily resurrection is only an empty dream, then “we are of all men most to be pitied.” All our preaching has a hollow ring to it, our faith is worthless, the dead have perished, and we are still under the condemnation of our sins (15:14, 16, 18). What a deplorable state of affairs! It’s enough to make all of us run and hide!

But wait. That hypothetical argument hinges on a conditional presupposition . . . if. “If there is no resurrection of the dead” (15:13), then we’re out to lunch. But there is a resurrection with all its promised hopes. It is as sure as we’re alive at this moment.

How can we be so certain that we will be resurrected? What is the source of our assurance? What gives us unshakable confidence in the face of death? The fact of Christ’s resurrection.

Because He has been raised, we too shall rise. As Paul stated in that same section of Scripture, “Christ [is] the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming” (15:23). That’s us! Jesus Himself promised, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies” (John 11:25).

No wonder we get so excited every Easter! No wonder we hold nothing back as we celebrate His miraculous resurrection from the grave! It’s a double-barreled celebration: His triumphant hurrah over agony and our ultimate and eternal hooray.

How can I keep from singing?

My life flows on in endless song;
Above earth’s lamentation
I hear the sweet though far off hymn
That hails a new creation:
Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing;
It finds an echo in my soul—
How can I keep from singing?

What though my joys and comforts die?
The Lord my Savior liveth;
What though the darkness gather round!
Songs in the night He giveth:
No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that refuge clinging;
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
How can I keep from singing?

I lift mine eyes; the cloud grows thin;
I see the blue above it;
And day by day this pathway smoothes
Since first I learned to love it:
The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
A fountain ever springing:
All things are mine since I am His—
How can I keep from singing?

    1. What’s better? Manned PRIVATE American Spaceship in orbit!!! Finally, a space program that won’t be raided to pay for welfare queens, or crippled for “Muslim outreach”.

“Hello, SpaceX — I want a launch.” “What for?” “Don’t want to say, but expect a net profit of $800 million.” “How does August third look for you?” “Can we do the fifth?” “Sure. Usual Ts&Cs apply, we’ll send you a copy — and you do know that Space Force will shoot you down if it’s hinky.” “Roger that.”

      1. “Muslim outreach” as related to the space program was the most bizarre and ridiculous thing I had heard of. And thinking about it now, it was absolutely brazen and in our faces.

That truly bizarre statement along with the BLM thugs standing in front of the polling place during the election and Holder declaring he wasn’t going to do anything about it….were the two incidents early in the long 8 years of corruption of the Obama era that set the tone for me of what was ahead.
And…not a peep out of the media or the GOP in Congress! That’s when I felt we were doomed.

    1. “”A woman in Baltimore just punched a cop in the face twice.”

A black woman just punched a white cop in the face twice.

If it had been reversed, we can be absolutely sure those details wouldn’t have been left out.

She actually believed she was entitled to hit a white cop in the face. I’ve dealt with white cops lots of times, and a few black cops too, and I never once believed I was entitled to hit any cop in the face. It never even crossed my mind.

But this woman, she’s special. She’s above the law in her mind, because she belongs to a protected-class.

It must be an amazing feeling.

“Don’t think she was expecting to get clocked in the head from behind… ”

It’s a good thing for the white cop that a black cop was there to knock her out. Because the white cop couldn’t do anything except stand there and get assaulted. He might as well have had his hands tied behind his back, because he was being confronted by a black woman.

That’s insanity that the Marxist democrats are always trying to create.

Black people can only be policed by black cops.

That’s 21st century segregation, brought to you entirely by the democrat Left.

  1. .
This is a long but EXCELLENT review of much of what has happened in these past four years. Particularly as regards black hats in the Obama administration that were carried over into the Trump administration.

It will be especially useful for red pilling fellow citizens who have not been following the particulars (names, dates, places) like we have over all these years.

I mean, the NERVE of lying about Flynn to Trump – of HIDING the exculpatory evidence – of keeping Trump locked in the phony Hoax.

And if it can be proven (which of COURSE it can be proven) that the coup conspirators created and financed and initiated all of these riots and associated kidnappings and murders, in order to cover up the ongoing criminal activities and Treason of Group 2, it’s heaping more death-penalty eligible mandatory charges on their heads.

And this is why they will never stop, why they’re all-in, no matter how many people get killed, because they know if they don’t win, they’re going to a firing squad, an electric chair, a noose or a needle.

  3. More LIFELOG dirty tricks

My wife stumbled on a shared post of a video from a friend: “Can you believe that Facebook flagged this video as ‘promoting violence’?”

The video was BLOCKED, but if you accepted the terms you could watch it.

    Then the video played.

It was an American flag hanging on a front porch.

The wind blew lightly and moved it.

  4. Understand… I know you all do…..

….these violent “protests” are intended to distract from what is REALLY happening.

Perhaps we need a “protest thread”?

Regardless, don’t let yourself be DISTRACTED by the stupid protest crap. That’s exactly what Soros wants! Keep your eye on the real prize(s). Speaking of….

TODAY….May 31….Judge Sullivan is REQUIRED to submit his response to the DC Appellate Court (as it is now 10 days from the court order demanding he answer for his ridiculous actions in the Flynn case.)

ALSO…..Wednesday…..Rod Rosenstein will appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee to answer a lot of questions I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want to answer. Will he wind up pleading the 5th?

Stay tuned, and stay frosty. Remember….

    We have it all.

  6. The narrative has now turned to “white people are starting the riots.” And from the videos I’ve seen, it does appear that white Soros goons and ANTIFA types appear to start the vandalism and then the crowd follows. That narrative isn’t entirely wrong.

The problem is that the Democrats are using this as an excuse to continue promoting division and rioting: “The white people showed up and sabotaged the poor black protesters.” So the blame for all of this gets pinned on “white people” in order to continue the division and none of the blame gets pinned on the black looters (who aren’t mentioned at all in these accusations). The way they’re framing this is very racist if you think about it: “It’s not their that fault black protesters can’t control themselves when the violence begins. It’s the fault of white people for provoking blacks into violence!”

To the best of my knowledge, they haven’t.

“Just who is reacting to who?”

Well that’s just it, at least according to, the ‘reacting’ by either side to the other is limited to obvious and necessary actions, but to a large extent, they are ignoring each other, and each executing their own parallel plans.

One way or another, Trump (and Military Intelligence, or whoever is on Trump’s team) obtained the Cabal’s ‘playbook’, and the long-term nature of the Cabal’s plans means they can’t make large or abrupt changes, there are too many different interrelated pieces in motion that depend on (and in turn affect other) plans being executed, which is why China virus was definitely going to happen regardless of who won the 2016 election.

They were long ago committed to this path, and many other things which have been in process for years were dependent on China virus being executed, so it was. Just (apparently) a little sooner than initially planned.

If correct, then Trump and his team, having a detailed understanding of Cabal’s long-game plan, created their own plan to derail Cabal’s plan. They know specific details of planned events and overall where Cabal is heading, and Cabal cannot alter their long-game plan in any big way, so Trump’s team created their own plan to counter the Cabal plan, and now each side is following their own plan.

This is why it often seems like Trump is not ‘reacting’ to Cabal provocations (because for the most part he is not, he’s following his own plan), and why it always seems like Trump is 3 steps ahead of Cabal.

I went into more detail in the long reply to Sadie Slays.

“Personally, I see these coordinated riots as further proof that PDJT is beating the crap out of “them” and they are getting quite desperate indeed.”

I agree that DJT is beating the crap out of them, but I don’t think they really get ‘desperate’, at least not yet.

I’m not even sure whether psychopaths are capable of ‘desperate’.

From what I have read, psychopaths don’t want to die, but they have no reason to fear it, because from their perspective, the only thing you have is the hear and now, and when it’s over, it’s just over, like turning off a switch, and that’s all there is.

Desperation requires fear, and if psychopaths don’t experience fear, that would explain how they can routinely continue down paths that are leading to certain death (theirs) without blinking an eye, where any normal person would have gotten the *&^% out of Dodge a long time ago.

            Psychopaths don’t care.

They don’t want the ride to be over, but they’re not afraid to die.

      1. I didn’t know you were in one of the combat zones. Stay safe 👍

Trump will take care of this, but it has to play itself out first, so the critical thing is to not get hurt between now and then.

There is a lot of information I’ve been trying to absorb on recently, explaining and showing how this is all part of a continuum, all being orchestrated by the same people.

The Russia hoax, the Flynn hoax, the Mueller hoax, the Ukraine whistleblower impeachment scam, the China virus, it’s all the same group working towards the same objective.

The politicalmoonshine writer traces it back to 9/11 (and then much, much further), but 9/11 was needed in order to get the ‘Patriot Act’ and related wish-list items passed into Law. This is a very long-game the enemy has been playing to overthrow the United States.

Covid-19 was planned long ago, almost certainly 10+ years ago, and was going to happen regardless of who won the 2016 election, but it had to be rushed when Trump won.

Hussein inserted ‘Pandemic Preparedness’ into the presidential transition process, which IIRC had not been substantially modified since the Kennedy assassination.

IIRC, the ‘pandemic preparedness’ was inserted by Executive Order on March 16th of 2016, some 45 days before the GOP nominee (Trump) was determined.

The ‘pandemic preparedness’ apparently included processes and procedures that must be followed, which included the appointment of a presidential task force to be led by the head of NIH (Fauci) and whatever Birx leads.

Fauci is a known bad actor and Hillaryphile, and apparently Birx is dirty too, but I am not as familiar with how she is compromised, besides both Fauci and Birx being involved in some kind of ethical or legal scandal years ago.

So Hussein set up how the presidential task force would take over in the case of a national emergency declared for a pandemic, with his people (Fauci and Birx and the CDC guy) running it, and of course they’re all connected to Bill Gates / Soros / WHO, etc. And I just found out last night (Amazing Polly video) that Fauci’s WIFE (Christine Grady) is the head of something to do with ‘ethical human experimentation’, the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues’, which it seems is how Fauci is able to get his vaccines approved.

So back to the long-game and the premeditated China-virus.

The job of Fauci and Birx was to create so much chaos and/or idiocy that Trump would overrule them, which is why Trump went to such lengths to have Fauci admit at one of the press conferences that Trump had done everything they asked, the first time they asked, making them own the consequences.

What would happen, if Trump (not a doctor) overruled two of the most highly regarded ‘doctors’ in the ‘pandemic’ game?

He would be declared ‘incompetent’ of course, dangerously so, endangering the entire United States, which leads directly to invoking the 25th Amendment in order to remove the President for mental incapacitation or gross incompetence.

This is why Trump has allowed them to do whatever it is they want to do, while dropping hints about HCQ (and then revealing that he is taking HCQ as a preventative) without ever contradicting or overruling Fauci & Birx.

The way politicalmoonshine describes Trump’s tactic is that he forces his enemies (in this case Fauci and Birx) to live inside their own ‘construct’, and then Trump closes off all the exits so the only direction they can go is forward, so that ultimately they are trapped by their own actions.

The same thing Flynn did, by initially and very purposefully hiring the law firm where Eric Holder is a partner, forcing participants in the coup to defend him.

Holder knew it was a set-up, but they couldn’t say ‘No’ if Flynn came up with the cash (apparently $6 million), so they had to take the case. Once they took the case they still had to keep sabotaging Flynn, they couldn’t actually help him, and now it’s all blowing up in their faces.

I think you’re exactly right, these same people who are behind ALL of the attempts to remove Trump from office (coup plotters) realized that China virus was a dud, and they’re moving on to the next thing.

I strongly suspect the riots are just a stop-gap measure, both to deflect attention away from damaging current events / information releases, and to provide time to launch whatever the next big effort is to overthrow the president.

The riots and looting won’t last until November, they almost certainly have something bigger than China virus planned between now and the election.

The way politicalmoonshine explains it, there are two parallel plans in motion, the Cabal’s and Trump’s. Trump is NOT ‘reacting’ to what the Cabal does, beyond what is necessary, he is following his own plan.

I don’t remember if politicalmoonshine said this explicitly, but considering that the Cabal’s plans are years (sometimes decades) in the making, they just can’t stop or turn on a dime, and they don’t believe they need to anyway, they’re going to do what they’ve planned to do, and nobody is going to stop them.

So when Q says they have the enemy’s playbook, then whether that means the Cabal’s long-game plans were contained on Hitlery’s lap-top or they obtained it some other way, I think Trump knows what their long-game is, and knows that because of the nature of the long-game, the enemy is not capable of diverging from the long-game plan, which is why Trump “knows” exactly what is coming, and has known all along.

Which has allowed Trump to create (or Military Intelligence to create) his OWN plan to counter the Cabal’s long-game plan.

So Trump sticks to HIS plan, and Cabal sticks to THEIR plan, and we are watching both plans play out (the movie).

Which is why it seems like Trump is never reacting to the Cabal’s provocations.

        It’s because he isn’t.

He’s following his own plan 🙂

He has a shortcut for new readers, to save time from having to go through all 39 articles, and mentions the shortcut several times, I think in all three of the most recent articles.

He recommends starting at one of two different points (after reading the most recent articles) to get filled in on most of the background, and one ‘short cut’ is a little longer (includes a few more articles) than the other.

I stumbled across a discussion here on Qtree about politicalmoonshine (and the writer posted here) a couple weeks ago. It must have been here, but I don’t know which thread it was in. The discussion was very interesting, so I went to his website and down the rabbit-hole.

The good thing is that it’s an easy rabbit-hole to understand, because most of the basic concepts are already familiar to readers here at Qtree, but he adds a lot of new information which ties things together, giving a better sense of the big picture.

          1. If you check out the articles (the last 3, May 15th, May 18th and May 20th) it will open your eyes to some new perspectives and tie up some loose ends, which for me made everything that we’re experiencing ‘fit’ together better and make more sense.

            Here’s the link:

        2. Scott, Thank you for this information. It made everything fall into place for me.

I had read somewhere that Pence had recommended Fauci and Birks but when you wrote:
“So Hussein set up how the presidential task force would take over in the case of a national emergency declared for a pandemic, with his people (Fauci and Birx and the CDC guy) running it, and of course they’re all connected to Bill Gates / Soros / WHO, etc. And I just found out last night (Amazing Polly video) that Fauci’s WIFE (Christine Grady) is the head of something to do with ‘ethical human experimentation’, the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues’, which it seems is how Fauci is able to get his vaccines approved.”
I am going to look up and read it.

          1. You are very welcome Elizabeth, the info from helped a few things fall into place for me too. Reading the articles was very helpful in the sense that I was familiar enough with most of the subject matter so nothing was hard to understand, but a fair amount of new information was added that also connected with some of the ‘dots’ I already knew about.

I’m still undecided about Pence, not sure what to make of him, but my understanding is that the Executive Order inserting pandemic preparedness determined who would be in charge of responding in case of a national emergency.

I don’t think Fauci or Birx were named specifically, but the head of NIH and whatever Birx leads must have been named, which is why we ended up with Fauci & Birx, as Hussein intended.

            Enjoy the politicalmoonshine website 👍

Very much agreed. The website goes all the way back to the founding of our country and the Freemasons. But the most recent several articles focused on the 2001 to the present segment of the overall timeline.

The more I understand about what’s going on, the ‘better’ I feel about it. I’ve been thinking about the articles I read on politicalmoonshine for a little while now, enough to try to encapsulate a lot of information in my own words, which is what I tried to do.

I think it’s good news, it seems like things are moving in a good direction, and I think a lot of people here would benefit from and/or appreciate the last several articles at their website. It’s like finding another website a lot like us, focusing on a lot of the same information, reaching a lot of the same conclusions, but because it’s not us, they brought some new information to the table that I haven’t seen discussed here.

It all fits together very well, helps fill in some missing pieces, ties up some loose ends, and in the end, helps to see the ‘big picture’ a little bigger and a little clearer. All of which is very positive from my perspective, and hopefully will be for others too 👍

What people usually mean is the FAR side of the moon; that’s what we have never seen from Earth. The only reason we have any notion what’s there is we’ve sent spacecraft (some of them manned by Americans, none manned by Russians bwahahahaha) to go look. It tends to be more cratered, with fewer dark “maria” than the side we can see.

            1. This always throws me for a loop:

              The Moon does not rotate.

The Moon does spin on its axis, completing a rotation once every 27.3 days; the confusion is caused because it also takes the same period to orbit the Earth, so that it keeps the same side facing us.”

I realize the Moon rotates, but to think that it rotates at exactly the right speed, in perpetuity, so that we only ever see the exact same portion, is really hard to wrap my tiny mind around.

If the speed was off by even 1/1000th of one mph, then over millennia, it seems that we should eventually ‘see’ the entire surface of the moon.

How can the speed be ‘perfect’, like an atomic clock… both the speed of the Moon and the speed of Earth, without the slightest variance, since man first looked up at the Moon?

What are the odds that two celestial bodies could ever align in such a way, and then maintain that alignment, forever — as both bodies move through space, being affected by other forces (primarily the gravitational pull of the sun, though not exclusively)?

              And this was interesting:

The Moon becomes larger on the horizon because it is closer to Earth.

This is an optical illusion. For reasons not fully understood by astronomers or psychologists, low-hanging moons look unnaturally large when they beam through trees, building or other foreground objects.”

That’s really not understood by astronomers or psychologists?

The more we are able to search space for other planets like ours…the more we are learning how extremely rare it is, for a planet to have such a perfect-sized Moon.

Rare, as in — haven’t found another like it yet.

If the Moon were a little smaller or a little bigger…

              2. Apparently the reason why the Moon is aligned so that we only see the same side all the time is called a “tidal lock”.

Why doesn’t the moon rotate on its own axis like the earth does?

John Lind, BS Physics & Mathematics, Arizona State University (1976)

The moon does rotate about its own axis. If it didn’t it wouldn’t present the same view toward the Earth as it orbited around it. It rotates about its axis to present the same side to the earth at the same rate as it orbits around the Earth. This is called Tidal Locking, a phenomenon not just between the Earth and the Moon, but for all bodies orbiting each other in space. Their rotations about their own axes eventually fall into synchronization with their orbits. How long this takes depends on their mass. Pluto and its sister Charon which orbit each other are in a mutual tidal lock.

Hence, we only got to see some of each during a probe fly-by as the portions facing each other were in deep shadow. The Earth, which is much more massive then the Moon, would eventually achieve tidal lock with the Moon in about 50 billion more years. That won’t happen as the Sun will become a red giant in about 5 billion years, swallowing the inner planets, including the Earth as it increases enormously in size.

In the meantime, the solar day – from solar zenith to solar zenith (local 12 Noon) is very, very, very slowly increasing, averaging about 1.7 milliseconds per century, as it slows toward what would be tidal locking if the Sun weren’t going to swallow it up before then. That’s a mere 0.034 seconds over the past 2000 years, or roughly one second over the past 59,000 years. It’s something astronomers can now measure, and it is following theoretical prediction, but not something a person would notice.

              3. The moon rotating just fast enough to continually present the same face to the earth isn’t even remotely coincidental…so a “what are the odds” question doesn’t apply.

A body in orbit around a large primary experiences tidal forces, that over time “drag” on it and cause its rotation to slow down. In fact, the Earth is experiencing this today–we have tides caused by the moon, and they are causing the earth’s rotation to slow down.

In the case of the moon, the Earth is a lot bigger than the moon is, has a much greater tidal effect on it, and has managed to slow the moon down to the point where the moon faces the same way to the earth–at which point the tidal drag becomes zero since, relative to the earth, the moon has stopped rotating–no speed, no drag.

Given enough time the earth will eventually present the same face to the moon at all times…but its a long enough time that it’s never going to happen, because the moon will long since have retreated to such a distance that the Earth will lose it to the Sun. Yes, the moon is slowly moving away from us (we can actually measure it by bouncing lasers off reflectors left on the Moon by the Apollo astronauts) and this is actually part of the same phenomenon…if the earth slows its rotation, the angular momentum has to go somewhere (it’s one of those things that’s conserved) and it goes into the moon’s orbit getting larger, slowly over time.

Satellites in earth orbit experience tidal drag too, quite strongly compared to the moon (tidal effects per meter of size of the orbiting body obey an inverse cube distance law). Left unchecked, the satellite will want to point with its long axis towards the earth’s center of mass. Engineers either use this to deliberately cause the satellite to be oriented a certain way…or they have to fight it with attitude corrections.

The four Galilean satellites of Jupiter (Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto, in increasing order of distance from Jupiter) are all tidally locked to Jupiter the same way the Moon is to Earth (much more strongly so, in fact, as Jupiter is over 300 times as massive as the Earth), and Mercury is partially tidally locked to the Sun…the sun is much more massive but Mercury is quite a bit farther from the sun.

So, contrary to what you seem to be thinking, it would be weird if the moon were NOT rotating with the same period as its orbit around the earth. If that were so physicists would have to conclude it had not been there very long.

As for the illusion, yes, that’s a bizarre phrasing–it’s not in astronomers’ bailiwick to try to explain that one, though psychologists often love to discover new optical illusions, since they gives them insight into how the brain functions.

              4. On the other hand if you DO want neat-o cosmic coincidences, the moon being just barely wide enough (seen from earth) to be able to cover the sun, IS a coincidence; no other natural satellite comes close to being that size–either way too small or much larger, as seen from its primary.

Instead, they put their knee in his neck and just sat on him and then carried on. They treated him worse than they treat animals.”[129] Floyd’s brother, Philonese, called for peace and said, “Everybody has a lot of pain right now, that’s why this is happening, I’m tired of seeing black people dying.”[130]

  16. 10:29 AM the Dragon capsule is expected to dock with the ISS.

I had the wrong mental image yesterday. I thought they were going to launch directly into the ISS orbit, and that’s why the launch had to be precisely timed. But as I do some more research, I believe that the timing was to make sure they ended up in the right orbital plane, and Canaveral cuts through it twice a day.

The Dragon boosted to a 200km altitude yesterday; the plan was to do a couple of burns to raise the orbit to match the ISS. Those, too, must be precisely timed (or you WILL end up in the ISS orbit track when the ISS isn’t around). But by the time most of you read this…they’ll be on the ISS, starting a mission that will last anywhere from 30 days to 90 days. Then they get to come back down. That should present no special problems, as this is something Dragons have done before. It’s just that this time the cargo will be alive.

OK, I’m going to go full frontal geek on you here.

An orbit is specified by six numbers:

    1) The size of the orbit. You measure that across the long axis of the ellipse, and divide by 2, to get the “semi-major axis.” The amount of time it takes to make one orbit depends solely on this number (and the mass of what you’re orbiting, which is called the “primary”).

    2) The eccentricity of the orbit. 0 is a perfect circle, 1 is a parabola, anything in between is some sort of ellipse. The ISS is in a very nearly circular orbit, about 400 kilometers above the earth’s surface. This parameter controls the difference between apoapsis (furthest point from the primary) and periapsis (closest point to the primary). Incidentally when the primary is Earth, those are called apogee and perigee. When it’s the Sun, aphelion and perihelion.

Those are the size and shape; the next three numbers define the orientation of the orbit in space. And for that it’s useful to have a reference coordinate system. The earth has an axis, and that’s our starting point. There’s an axis, and a plane cutting through the earth’s equator. You can define something called “declination” analogous to latitude, the angle off the equatorial plane, +90 at the north pole, -90 at the south pole. But what do you do for east-west?

You do NOT use longitude. Because the longitude lines rotate with the Earth, and an orbit will tend to keep its orientation constant; it won’t move. So you want an unchanging coordinate system, and there’s one called “Earth-Centered Inertial”. There’s a line from the center of the earth, to the “first point of Aries” where the zodiac and the equator intersect. That’s the starting point for “space longitude,” and that is measured from the first point of Aries, counterclockwise as seen from over the north pole, through 360 degrees. It’s like longitude, but it’s not tied to the Earth’s surface so it won’t rotate.

(And if you are actually following that without a diagram…I am doing my job well.)

An orbit about the earth is, as I mentioned either a circle or an ellipse. Those are shapes that occupy a plane, they have a two dimensional shape. The center of the earth is at the center of the circle (or one focus of the ellipse), so any orbit is on a plane that includes the center of the earth.

    3) What if the plane cuts through the earth along the equator? Then the inclination is zero. If it cuts through the two poles, then the plane is at right angles to the equator, and the inclination is 90 degrees. In the case of the ISS, the inclination is about 51 degrees. Note, by the way, that the satellite can never pass over a point whose latitude is higher than its inclination. The furthest north or south of the equator the ISS ever gets is 51 N or 51 S.

    4) Longitude of the ascending node is the next number. If you have an inclined orbit…well where does it cross the equatorial plane. In other words, the satellite could cross from “south of the equator” to “north of the equator” directly under the first point of Aries…which makes the longitude of the ascending node zero, or it could be at some other Earth Centered Inertial longitude. If it’s not the same for two different satellites, they’re not orbiting in the same plane and could only intersect each other at two places on the orbit.

    5) Next is the Argument of Perigee. 3 and 4 got us the orientation of the plane, but you can still rotate the ellipse within that plane, and have the long axis point anywhere along 360 degrees. So the angle between the line through perigee, and the line where the satellite crosses through the equatorial plane going from south to north, is the “argument of perigee” (and it runs from 0 to 360 degrees). Note that this is essentially meaningless if the orbit is circular!

Those five numbers are enough to let you “draw” the ellipse of the orbit around the earth in three-D space. But there’s just one more thing.

    6) You need to define, at any given instant, where the satellite is in its orbit. This is often done by giving a time when the satellite is crossing through its ascending node. From that point, in theory you can tell exactly where it is at any given time. This is usually called the epoch. And if two satellites have everything the same but their epoch, one will be “ahead” of the other at all times on that ellipse.

This can also be specified by giving the satellite’s “true anomaly” (the angle away from perigee/periapsis) at some given time, like is done in the figure below.

If that seems complicated, imagine calculating these numbers. It’s not as bad as it sounds because there are mathematical “tricks” to determining angles, and so on, but still, not trivial.

    1. Nicely done, but one small quibble — you use the “center of the earth”, which is ambiguous. It should be the earth’s center of mass. This can be particularly confusing in more circumpolar orbits, because the earth is an oblate spheroid and “center of the earth” might imply a particular altitude.

      Liked by 2 people

      1. True (it means precisely that to me but perhaps not to others), and of course the oblateness introduces perturbations I didn’t address either…ones that will add up to some 500km in the course of a day–if I recall a lecture from 28 years ago accurately.

    2. My understanding is that they get the plane right, and close to (but slightly under) the desired orbit, so they can “sneak up” on the ISS (your #6). Of course, if you’re under the ISS orbit, you’re also travelling faster and your #5 will tend to change relative to the ISS with each orbit. Fortunately, computers are good at this.

For more fun with orbital mechanics, Larry Niven’s “The Integral Trees” is a fun exploration of their counterintuitive nature.

    3. In addition to all the technical problem-solving that is required for space flight…there is unfortunately a medical one, as well.

Namely the loss of bone density, bone loss and loss of muscle mass.
The muscle mass can be restored…but depending on how long a person is in space, the bone loss cannot be fully restored.

The bone loss begins in the first few days in space…and continues on at a rate of about -1% per month.

The problem has been given a name — Spaceflight Osteopenia.

Nasa continues to try to find a solution for this and are experimenting with supplements of calcium and vitamin D…also with hormones to stimulate bone growth.

Exercise was thought to be a possible solution, but the bone loss has still continued.
The exercise helps with slowing down the muscle loss, though.

Hopefully we will find a solution to this soon.
Because if we don’t…extended time in Space will harm our bodies in ways that cannot be reversed.

          1. We don’t know that for certain.

It could be a certain minimum amount of gravity–that’s less than 1g–will totally prevent that. Maybe Mars has enough, maybe not. Or perhaps some will leach out, and then it will stop. We simply don’t know, and can’t know without either going to Mars, or spending a long time in a centrifuge in orbit set to Martian gravity (very expensive to do–it’d have to be pretty large or the rotation will have its own effects).

We have much less experience with intermediate gravity (between zero and one) than we do with zero g.

We have some reason to believe that in order for our inner ears to get a sense of “down” we need a little bit more than the moon has. This is why the astronauts were so clumsy on the moon. But even that will need verification.

            Liked by 1 person

      1. We DO have a solution–at least in theory.

If we can rotate the spacecraft somehow, we can simulate gravity. The problem is the mere fact that one is spinning can affect you too; if you can slow down the spin (number of RPM), you can reduce this but then, to get the same gravity, you need a bigger structure.

For trips to Mars, there’s thought of putting the nuclear reactor we’d probably be bringing with us for power, on the end of a tether and spinning the whole system, reactor on one end, rest of spacecraft on the other.

More ideally, we’d want a medical solution, to change the body so that it just doesn’t do this in the first place.

Could there have been a more perfect script to reinvigorate the ‘Take a Knee’ narrative?

    What a coincidence!

And almost immediately, leftists started using it the day after it happened:

And also…the very next day…muslims chime in, exploiting it for their own propaganda:

It quickly became a ‘thing’ with the professional protestors, to stomp on our Flag and “take a knee”:

So I cannot shake the sense that this whole thing was scripted and planned.

I don’t know if that police officer Chauvin was MK’d or paid to do what he did.
But the timing of it…along with the ‘perfect script’ aspect of it…is very, very fishy.

It gets the full side-eye from me:

    1. And reports that they knew each other? Had worked together? Minneapolis has a CSA of 4 million people. What are the chances? A suspicious $20 bill? Sounds like a setup.

“The man tried to use what an employee suspected was a counterfeit $20 bill but an employee caught it, gave it back to the man and they left, Abumayyaleh said. Roughly 10 minutes later, Floyd came back in the store and used a suspicious $20 bill, according to the owner.

The employee didn’t immediately notice and Floyd left but the employee followed protocol and called the police. Floyd was still outside the store when officers arrived.”

      The employee followed protocol?

    1. Wheatie, because of the seven-deep limit I couldn’t reply directly to your post about the Moon–though you may have been notified of Scott’s response. There is stuff up there I wrote in reply to Scott that you might want to see. The “too long didn’t read” is that the Moon keeping the same face to the earth is not a coincidence at all; its a consequence of physics–it’d be “wrong” if the moon didn’t do so. The two relative sizes leading to really cool solar eclipses though, that IS a legit coincidence.

    Authored by Jonathan Turley,

“Early on in the pandemic, I wrote about how governors can shutdown churches under the Constitution. On Friday, the Supreme Court voted 5-4 along those lines to reject an emergency appeal from a California church over the imposition of limits on the size of attendance at services. The church came close to prevailing. Chief Justice John Roberts joined his liberal colleagues in upholding what he said were limits that “appear consistent” with the First Amendment. The cost ruling is an indication of how courts are applying closer scrutiny to the treatment of churches as opposed to other institutions allowed to have greater numbers of people.

Last week, President Donald Trump has pledged that he will “override” state orders barring in-person religious services unless governors do so. As I have previously noted, the President is claiming authority that is expressly denied to him in our system of federalism. While I have warned such deference given to the states wanes with time, any order to reopen churches in a given state will be based on the inherent authority of the courts, not the President. The Administration can, and has promised, joined legal challenges to such state orders but it is not claiming the inherent authority of presidents to “override” state decisions. The Justice Department has warned Newsom that his order is contravening constitutional rights. However, now that the Supreme Court has ruled, any move by President Trump to “override” such orders would directly contravene the authority of the Supreme Court as the final arbiter of what the Constitution means in such conflicts.”

    1. Perhaps church members/goers should label themselves as “Protesters” – then they could defy ANYTHING and ANYONE, and get away with it.

    3. Turley needs to check the thickness of the ice he’s walking upon. If he wants to weigh in on constitutional limits, he might want to make sure he also weighs in on the Patriot Act and the myriad other legislative acts that make up DJT’s claims.

The constitution is not a suicide pact. At a certain point, evil enemies have to be dealt with. DJT will do that.

    4. John Roberts is Asshoe. Nowhere in the 1st Ammendment is there an attendance limit or building capacity mentioned pertaining to the exercising of freedom of religion.

      Liked by 2 people

      1. But there ARE recognized limits to the freedom of religion.

You cannot engage in human sacrifice and then claim “freedom of religion,” because that’s actually murder.

OK, you respond, that’s an idiot example (not really, as it demonstrates the principle).

But then…the use of peyote–a “controlled substance”–in Native American religious rituals is also not constitutionally protected, according to SCOTUS (Congress passed a law specifically allowing it anyway).

So government IS allowed to restrict religious freedom under some circumstances. This ruling by Roberts and four others is nothing new, nor terribly surprising to me.

“Public safety” is considered one of the primary purposes of government, especially at the state level, and when some state government can make a convincing argument it is threatened, they will win.

Why is ANTIFA burning down black barber shops under the guise of #BlackLivesMatter?

They don’t care about black lives. They care about anarchy.

The Governor of Minnesota has rightfully called it a mockery to pretend these protests are about #GeorgeFloyd. He says outside forces & extremists are stoking chaos.

as protesters march on Trump Tower in Chicago & the White House, a frank media might point out the death of Mr.Floyd happened under a democrat mayor, democrat senator, democrat governor, with a democrat county prosecutor. the only person who did shit was a republican. Trump.

Of course the American body politic is constipated and can’t get rid of all the shit politicians and flush them down the toilet, so I wasn’t totally off base.

    1. He SPEAKS to the RIOTS everyday… calling them Domestic Terrorists

      What more can he do?

He asks the Govs to handle the situation within their own states, if they can’t to ask for help. Of course the DIM Govs are opening the doors to the terrorists, telling the LEOs to Stand Down, and wringing their hands… and the Deep State is hoping he will call in the military so they can impeach him again.

It’s the responsibility of the DIM Govs to do something… they should be on TV explaining WHY THEY ARE NOT HANDLING the problem.

      1. Of course they’d only do that if someone called them on it.

That someone would have to be someone with a large audience. And that narrows it down to the YSM, which will never do so, and Trump, who COULD do so, and has, on Twitter.

If he went on air with a speech out of the oval office, however, the governors couldn’t ignore it. I’d love to see him do it (IMHO he hasn’t used that particular line of communication often enough–it’s one that reaches people he otherwise wouldn’t reach). If Trump hasn’t done so, it’s because he’s judged it’s not the best way to handle it, and he’s shown his judgment on such things to be far better than mine.

        1. Good points Steve… Barr just came out with a Press Release saying what Americans need to hear, and imho I think it more effective that the word is coming from the Attorney General, rather than POTUS… defuses the designation of Antifa as Terrorists and the DIMs rejection and diminishes the opportunity to attack POTUS… “the AG is doing his job.”

  29. Of note, my local Commie rag had nothing until page 5 about the “protests” – and they only mentioned our local protests which have been small, but remember, we’re a big military community – active and retired.

My thoughts on AG Barr calling these vermin “Antifa-like.”

Waiting on @realDonaldTrump to name #Antifa a Terrorist Org. & a National Security threat. #Dems have protected them for yrs. Time to #MakeAmericaSafeAgain BTW, AG Barr, these are not “Antifa-like”- they’re ANTIFA. #DOJ

      1. As Wolfie says, words mean something. Ticked me off w/ Barr’s parsing on the “Antifa-like” – there’s no Antifa-like, there’s Antifa, period. They’re showing up everywhere in these black outfits – certain look and style. I always thought masks should be banned in public because of their hiding behind masks, not the government idiots – Dem and GOP – have the general population in masks. Not going to work out well.

The only people needing masks are those working in health care, and vulnerable to this virus. But masks actually cause more health problems for the general population. It’s also my opinion that COVID is essentially gone, and the numbers of “positives” are not really “cases” but simply people who test positive. Notice they don’t make that distinction when reporting COVID – it’s why they wanted mass testing – to drive up the numbers, but it doesn’t mean those are people sick w/ the virus.
