Dear KAG: 20200528 Open Thread

To celebrate America’s return to space even if the weather didn’t cooperate, here’s a little launch music.

As usual, this is the daily thread, the place to put all information that needs to be out there – Q drops, news flashes, WuFlu updates, satire, memes, and of course cute animal videos.

In the meantime, the short and sweet version of “THE RULES” is here borrowed from Tuesday:

Guidelines for posting and discussion on this site were outlined by our host, WolfM00n. Please, review them from time to time.

The discourse on this site is to be CIVIL – no name calling, baiting, or threatening others here is allowed. Those who are so inclined may visit Wolf’s other sanctuary, the U-Tree, to slog it out.

This site is a celebration of the natural rights endowed to humans by our Creator as well as those enshrined in the Bill of Rights adopted in the founding documents of the United States of America. Within the limits of law, how we exercise these rights is part of the freedom of our discussion.

Fellow tree dweller Wheatie gave us some good reminders on the basics of civility in political discourse:

  1. No food fights.
  2. No running with scissors.
  3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.

Since it is almost the weekend, the reminders are in place to not swing from the chandeliers, wash your hands and face, marinate the ribs, and be nice to the liberals whether they deserve it or not. Making your bed, OTOH, is optional.

And now for a little weekend warm-up dance music to blare in the neighborhood or at the state capitol of your choice.

JN 17:20-26

Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying:
“I pray not only for these,
but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
so that they may all be one,
as you, Father, are in me and I in you,
that they also may be in us,
that the world may believe that you sent me.
And I have given them the glory you gave me,
so that they may be one, as we are one,
I in them and you in me,
that they may be brought to perfection as one,
that the world may know that you sent me,
and that you loved them even as you loved me.
Father, they are your gift to me.
I wish that where I am they also may be with me,
that they may see my glory that you gave me,
because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
Righteous Father, the world also does not know you,
but I know you, and they know that you sent me.
I made known to them your name and I will make it known,
that the love with which you loved me
may be in them and I in them.”

Here’s to avoiding speed traps and liberal Karens empowered by the nanny state who feel they must lecture the rest of us on proper social distancing and decorum.

I always love election season because it’s when the heat is on. When the media thinks they can bully people into groupthink and submission.

    Protests. Riots. Fake Headlines.

But Lions survive the hunt like truth survives the lies.

  2. Things just got surreal in my house. I’ve been working on cleaning out a room that happens to be mine…the depository of all things nobody wants to get rid of…and the old man claims he’s going to stand on my grandmother’s cedar chest to open the window and cut branches away from it that scratch in the slightest breeze. God help me.

      1. Well, it’s right under the window. The stepstool is in the dining room right now.

Someday, I’ll actually get the whole house clean. We’ll have to get rid of half the furniture first. Every wall is lined with it.

        1. It can not be as bad as mine. Think ~40 saddles and bridles that HAVE to be stored in the house or they turn green and rot. Bridles, harnesses, horse/pony collars, saddle pads, costumes (Horse and human) all the material and notions to make the stuff… BOOKS! and a husband who is a packrat.

I did have a storage shed with an A/C unit but the bottom rotted out. GACK! So now everything is in the house. OH, and the town would NOT let me put in the basement I wanted plus the attic turns into an oven in the summer.

When Hubby had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and was comatose for ten days and then was completely out of it for nearly a year as his brain healed, I completely lost control of the house cleaning. I have never been able to get ahead of it ever since.

          1. Well, I guess it’s not that bad, but everything was well managed until we cleaned out both of my grandparents’ houses – one was a little beach shack, essentially, and the other a 3,400 square foot farm house – and then my grandmother’s apartment 12 years later. Mom’s parents’ stuff all landed here and with a couple siblings. And some things came from my dad’s mom.

Not sure what I’m going to do when it’s time to actually move my parents.

    1. Not to be morbid but you can feel free to relay my cautionary tale. My father did something stupid like that about 3 yrs before his death. The 3 yrs in-between was a healthy golf playing man to several surgeries, a walker, pins in his hip…………something dumb and it changed everything.

            1. Several of our older male friends learned the (very, in some cases!) hard way about working in a ladder. When you pull your head back, to clean out the gutter, paint the trim, etc etc, you cut off the oxygen supply, get dizzy or even temporarily black out, and fall backwards.
Some have broken hips or even died as the result of the fall. A female acquaintance got on top of her kitchen counters to do something above, cut off the oxygen supply and fell to the floor, resulting in serious injury at age 65. (Tough to recover at that age.).
You are lucky indeed if there’s a bush between you and a cement patio.
Trouble is, you keep thinking you can still do everything you used to do!

              Liked by 2 people

              1. A thoughtful person explained the age vs balance thing to me like this.

‘Balance’ is an analog system based first in the inner ear, but that’s combined with other feedback from the lymph systems, the valving systems for blood flow in the veins and arteries, nerve reports from muscles holding onto the spine and extension bones; all of these are involved in safely reaching beyond our body center of gravity.

We only get the info we get. That the amount of info decreases as we age in not apparent. When we are old enough the info to do high-level ‘balancing’ is lacking – but there is no info-is-missing report to warn us. Also the muscles’ strength to quickly re-‘balance’ is diminished or insufficient.

And that’s why men fall off ladders, and why the falls are sudden surprises. The telemetry system doesn’t work any longer, and there’s not a notification feedback system to give warning.

House painters have an unofficial rule; No Ladders If You Are Over Fifty.

  4. Taiwan scientists find antibody that fights coronavirus
Taiwanese researchers discover antibody that inhibits coronavirus by up to 98%

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A team of scientists at Taiwan’s Chang Gung University (CGU) has found a monoclonal antibody (mAb) that can inhibit the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) by over 90 percent.

The team spent several months searching for the antibody, which has the ability to inhibit the virus by 90 to 98 percent. In addition, it has been found to be effective against all four main virus strains.

In early April, researchers from CGU and Academia Sinica, the National Defense Medical Center, and Oxford University announced that they had identified 25 strains of mAbs in three patients infected with COVID-19. At the time, they had already identified one of which could potentially inhibit the virus from entering the body, paving the way for medication.

Shih Shin-ru, director of the CGU Research Center for Emerging Viral Infections confirmed on Thursday (May 28) that through experiments there the antibody has the ability to block the virus from entering the human body, with the ability to inhibit the virus ranging between 90 to 98 percent, reported CNA. Moreover, the antibody had the same neutralization effect on the Wuhan, American, European, and Egyptian strains of COVID-19, making it an ideal candidate for therapeutic drugs.

Shih said that unlike pharmaceuticals, which can be toxic and produce side effects, antibodies are made from substances that naturally occur in the human body. Therefore, they are not only safe but also highly specialized, enabling them to identify specific viruses and inhibit or eliminate them and will not affect normal healthy cells in the process, while reducing the occurrence of side effects.

The director added that now that the CGU team has identified a suitable mAb, they will start a technology transfer to the private sector in June, carry out further tests, and ramp-up to mass production. If all goes well, the antibody could be commercially available by as soon as the end of the year, said Shih.

JAKARTA (REUTERS) – Indonesia will continue to prescribe two anti-malaria drugs for coronavirus patients but monitor their use closely, a spokesman for Indonesia’s Covid-19 taskforce said on Thursday (May 28), after some European nations banned the drug over safety concerns.

The world’s fourth-most populous nation has since late March recommended that chloroquine and its derivative, hydroxychloroquine, be widely administered, including to coronavirus patients with moderate to severe symptoms, according to Food and Drug Monitoring Agency guidelines.

The twin cities cop wasn’t putting all his weight on his left knee? Would it matter?

The suspect had just previously been struggling and part of his struggle included saying ‘I can’t breathe’ even though that could not be caused by the cops’ actions at that time. So that when he repeated ‘I can’t breathe’ the cop thought he was BSing.

The suspect was flailing his legs about?

Could the video be manipulated? Such as slowing down the video while maintaining the audio speed? Could it even have been recording silent and the audio added later?

Last but not least, what happens when the autopsy reveals heart failure? Brain tumor? Brain bleeding? Pulmonary thrombosis? Something other than asphyxiation?

On a related point – personally, I am sick of hearing without any corroborating evidence:
    1) Epstein was running an underage sex ring;
    2) We must stay in lockdown to save lives;
    3) The cop must have been wrong.

No due process — and our side is championing 1) & 3) while claiming to be patriots. The Brit troops got more due process in the Boston Massacre that Epstein or the MN cop.

    Shameful.

What is your definition of “underage sex ring”? There is testimony of multiple girls that they were recruited when under age, some by Ghislaine, to be Epstein’s sex objects. At least one of them escaped from the island.

      1. There’s lots of money involved. And no ‘testimony’ at all; just statements (what legal eagles call averments).

He cut a deal for a criminal charge. Obviously the prosecutor didn’t think the case was strong enough for trial.

Beyond that, there is no hard evidence – just stories. IOW, no due process. Innocent until due process proves guilt.

        1. Witness statements are evidence. And there are other witnesses who back up their accounts. All of that is evidence.

“Obviously the prosecutor didn’t think the case was strong enough for trial.” You do not consider the possibility that people were paid off? Have you read about those first charges against Epstein? My impression is that you’re counting certain things as evidence while ignoring huge amounts of other evidence.

    2. I saw the video and what the officer did was inexcusable. No one should be treated as the fellow on the ground was. Of course there has to be due process and we will see if justice is being served.
The police is innocent until proven guilty and the tape looks damming. Anything can be falsified and I think we are skilled enough to figure out if the tape was hampered with.

Now I’m rethinking Joe and Victoria complaining last year that none of their Whistleblower clients had been contacted. Planted on purpose to make us believe Huber doing nothing and cause Crookeds to relax?? Joe and VIc are MAGA WhiteHats, might they also be facilitators of Canary Traps and Red Herrings??

              3. I really never formed an opinion about Joe and Vic. There were so many things said, expectations, dashed hopes, etc. etc. I finally just neutralize many sources – kind of just glided over the remarks, and decided to wait and see. This was a massive enterprise – and If POTUS is to break the Swamp completely it had to be done a certain way. I had no problem understanding that legal investigations, especially as involved this was – it would take a long time. Ultimately, I believe we’re going to be shocked at the depth of the results.

Personally, the only casualty in my thinking is Jeff Sessions. There still may be something we don’t know, and I still believe he set up many of these investigations, but I don’t understand the animosity from POTUS towards Sessions, so that’s the one thing that won’t play out like I would have liked.
