Our Half-Millionth Comment: Beautiful!

I intentionally made sure that nobody was paying attention to our approaching half-millionth (500,000) comment, because I really did not want there to be conscious gaming of it. I wanted it to be as RANDOM as possible. I wanted GOD to decide the post – not us.

Only days later, when I was sure that we had past it, did I even think about going back to find Q Tree No. 500,000 – and I was too busy to do it then, so I just put it off. UNTIL NOW.

It was on Steve’s Saturday, May 16 open thread, entitled 2020·05·16 KMAG Daily Thread

Here is the comment:

This was in response to an image posted by Georgia (GA/FL):

Sheeple Report from NY – Was at an outdoor nursery buying flowers and every single person was masked up. Out in the fresh air and sunshine. I wore nothing and no one said a word. Maybe people will start to think ‘hey maybe I don’t need this mask today.’

I wore nothing and no one said a word.

I would surely have said something complimentary (even if only under my breath).

They are called Rain Lilies in S GA – they pop up on country roadsides and in fields after a rain.

holley can you imagine how everyone is going to look after this summer being out in the sun with a mask?
They all will have white around their mouth and nose and the rest is brown .

Personally, I was prepared to rationalize whatever post happened to be “the one”, as some kind of validation of “whatever” it might have been, as a worthy object of our attention in some small way.

Maybe it would be Q. Maybe it would be Trump. Maybe it would be us FIGHTING, and our sin pointed out in judgment.

NOPE. It was NONE of those things.

God’s natural beauty.

Enjoy the show!!!

Luke 12

Do Not Worry

22Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. 23For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap; they have no storehouse or barn, yet God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than the birds!

25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 26So if you cannot do such a small thing, why do you worry about the rest?

27Consider how the lilies grow: They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith!

29And do not be concerned about what you will eat or drink. Do not worry about it. 30For the Gentiles of the world strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added unto you.

Treasures in Heaven

32Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide yourselves with purses that will not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Appendix: The Quarter-Millionth Comment

Quarter Millionth (Moon Distance) Post

The Moon’s distance from Earth varies, but it it generally WITHIN a quarter of a million miles. Here is the “technical stuff” behind “quarter million”. And one of the best pictorial demonstrations I have yet seen, of why “super moon” is actually a thing. Lunar distance (LD or {\textstyle \Delta _{\oplus L}}), also called Earth–Moon distance, Earth–Moon characteristic distance, or distance …

You can see that I made Wheatie a promise that I would have a special post about the 100,00th comment, but we never did. However, now that this rumored discussion was finally located, it WILL be remembered not only now, but when we get to ONE MILLION!!! So HANG ON!!! 😀

  1. Rain Lilies flower and blossom after rains.

I’m not an expect but somehow they are aware of the weather changes and it triggers the blossom.

My wife has a rain lily that she got from her Grandmother many years ago. After we got married the flower loved the new climate and became quite prolific!

I have many pictures of its flowers over the years as it put on more and more blooms.

They are a wonderful flower of hope after a STORM!

  2. I noticed that we were getting close…and I noticed when we had just gone past the 500K point.

    I think it’s cool, because it’s a reflection of:

“A flock of Treepers seeking deep knowledge of the prime number 17.”

    😁😀👍
So, thanks for commemorating this milestone, Wolfie!

  3. Naked lady lilies are generally held to be Amaryllis belladona — but sometimes as Lycoris squamigera. Standard amaryllis grow leaves and then flower (and are well-known for being “forced” to bloom out-of-season) — “naked ladies” send up a flower shoot, then the flower dies back, then leaves develop for next year’s flower.

We have a small plantation of carnivorous plants. Most of them are flowering plants dependent on polllinators…..and throw up flower spikes well above the carnivorous parts before they consume insects in bulk. Note the position of the flower at https://www.californiacarnivores.com/collections/plant-collections/products/pinguicula-collection-3-plants-potted .

  5. Congratulations, Dear Wolfmoon, on founding a thriving blog and reaching over 500K comments!

    About those lilies….

I was wrong – yet again – the Naked Lady lily is properly called a Lycoris Squamigera – https://www.southernbulbs.com/naked-lady-lycoris-squamigera/

Rain Lilies are properly called Zephranthes

All about and how to grow Rain Lilies – https://www.thespruce.com/rain-lilies-1316065

South Georgia Rain Lilies at the famous nursery in Ty Ty, GA. (Yep, that’s the name of the town) https://www.tytyga.com/Rain-Lily-Bulbs-s/1930.htm

    More – https://www.easytogrowbulbs.com/pages/rain-lilies-zephyranthes-planting-guide

Other S GA lilies of the field – there are more than I ever knew! https://usinggeorgianativeplants.blogspot.com/2011/06/lilies-among-us.html

Further considering the lilies of the field…

A really interesting lily that blooms in S GA is the Hurricane Lily or Spider Lily and blooms during hurricane season – without foliage – https://www.southernbulbs.com/red-spider-lily-southern-heirloom-triploid-regular-1/

And there is yet another lily that blooms in S GA called the Gloriosa Lily (Gloriosa superba) and it’s a climbing plant. Its flowers grow inside out and it looks like tongues of fire and blooms around Pentecost!

      1. Years ago – 30+ years ago – I was a Daylily judge – married to an amateur hybridizer. Daylilies have come a long way since the discovery of tetraploids and all the hybridizing across the country and world.

        Here is a Daylily Dictionary – https://www.daylilies.org/ahs_dictionary/dictionary.html

Scroll down and look at some of the fantastic flowers with eyes, edging, ruffling in 2015 journal. Just imagine 2020 lilies.

    1. We had several names for them when I lived in Kentucky. We called them Pink Ladies, Nekkid Ladies and Surprise Lilies. They always came up in late summer and were usually in older housing neighborhoods. A friend would always bring me a bouquet of them when they bloomer.

  7. The “Beautiful!” comment also brings Isaiah 52:7 to mind – regarding Wolfie and Flep!

    New International Version
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

    New Living Translation
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns!

    English Standard Version
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
