It kills me to write about this. The Economic Train is suffering in the worst way possible. This is at no fault of her or our President. These are the ramifications of the Coronavirus.
The Department of Labor (DOL) released the unemployment claims data showing a record 6.6 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week due to the coronavirus shut-down.
The 6.6 million claims are double the 3.3 million who made claims last week. The great unknown at this point is how many people may be re-hired or retained by the rescue funds within the CARES Act. This process begins today.
From the link above:
Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia issued the following statement regarding Unemployment Insurance claims:
“Similar to last week’s unemployment claims numbers, today’s report reflects the sacrifices American workers are making for their families, neighbors, and country in order to ‘slow the spread.’
The Administration continues to act quickly to address this impact on American workers. That includes a rule the Labor Department adopted yesterday to implement the paid leave provisions of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, and the Department’s work with the States to make available the enhanced unemployment benefits provided in the CARES Act, which the President signed last week.
That legislation also contains significant incentives for businesses to retain workers and continue paying them, which will put businesses and workers in a better position to resume work and re-boot the economy once the virus is contained.”
As the unemployment numbers continue to rise, we get some good news. DHS halts bringing H-2B foreign workers to our country.
From the article linked above:
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is halting efforts to bring more H-2B foreign visa workers to the United States to take nonagricultural jobs after mounting public opposition.
In March, Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf announced his plan to bring an additional 35,000 H-2B foreign visa workers to the U.S. to take nonagricultural jobs in landscaping, construction, seafood processing, hotels and restaurants, and amusement parks.
On Thursday, DHS officials said they were halting the plan to bring in those additional 35,000 H-2B foreign visa workers “due to present economic circumstances” wherein 6.6 million Americans have now filed jobless claims in the midst of the Chinese coronavirus crisis.
At this point I don’t need to see anymore evidence. I wish that going forward, every single American that tests positive for the Coronavirus is put immediately on hydroxychloroquine. Thousands of lives will be saved!
From the article linked above:
An international poll of more than 6,000 doctors released Thursday found that the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine was the most highly rated treatment for the novel coronavirus.
The survey conducted by Sermo, a global health care polling company, of 6,227 physicians in 30 countries found that 37% of those treating COVID-19 patients rated hydroxychloroquine as the “most effective therapy” from a list of 15 options.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave chloroquine and its next-generation derivative, hydroxychloroquine, emergency-use authorization Monday for treating the novel coronavirus, although the drug was already being used off-label by some doctors and hospitals for COVID-19 patients.
My greatest fear are that there are forces that will do everything in their power to stop our President from defeating this virus ASAP. The fact that he was one of the first to bring up hydroxychloroquine tells me that many states and doctors will not turn to it.
They want the death toll to be as large as possible so that they can try and stick that around our President’s neck. There is no other way they can defeat him in November. This is their only chance. In the article below, BHO’s former advisor admits to it.
From the article linked above:
Former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe on Thursday predicted that supporters of President Trump will turn out “at a historical level” on Election Day, creating a “very dangerous” scenario for former Vice President Joe Biden.
Plouffe, speaking on the “Fox News Rundown” podcast shortly after record-high jobless claims were announced, said Trump voters will head to the polls to cast their ballots for the president despite the coronavirus pandemic and economic fallout.
“You look at the economic situation and say, ‘How can an incumbent win in that?’ But, you know, no one’s blaming Trump for the damage,” Plouffe said. “I think if you can lay his crisis response at his feet and connect that to the economy, I do think that’s some headwind he’s got to run into.”
Plouffe, who was considered the architect of former President Obama’s successful 2008 White House bid, said Trump is still well positioned for repeat victories in Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin “because his base is so solid.”
“And I think he’s going to turn out voters almost at a historical level on his behalf, so that makes him very dangerous if you’re Joe Biden,” Plouffe added.
I was so happy to read the letter our President wrote to the POS Crying Chuck!
Crying Chuck sent a letter to our President yesterday saying it was “long past the time” to name a senior military officer to lead the supply-chain effort.
The POS was trying to construct a political narrative around the administration not taking action to secure U.S. supply needs combating COVID-19.
Our President first responded via Twitter:
He then sent the letter below later in the day:
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin provided additional information at the briefing yesterday including an important new point: Social Security recipients will not need to file an income tax return to see a direct deposit.
After instruction from President Trump all SSI recipients will participate in the economic relief programs without taking further action.
I am so pissed that the company 3M doesn’t understand what it means to put America First during a crisis. It is absolutely disgusting that 3M to chased profits over patriotism.
…”The Secretary, through the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Administrator), shall use any and all authority available under the Act to acquire, from any appropriate subsidiary or affiliate of 3M Company, the number of N-95 respirators that the Administrator determines to be appropriate.”…
It took the invocation of the Defense Production Act to stop 3M from selling masks and PPE to cash paying foreign governments; forcing them to supply the U.S. federal government and states instead.

SUBJECT: Order Under the Defense Production Act Regarding 3M Company
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (50 U.S.C. 4501 et seq.) (the “Act”), it is hereby ordered as follows:
Section 1. Policy. On March 13, 2020, I declared a national emergency recognizing the threat that the novel (new) coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2 poses to our healthcare systems. In recognizing the public health risk, I noted that on March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization announced that the outbreak of COVID-19 (the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2) can be characterized as a pandemic.
I also noted that while the Federal Government, along with State and local governments, have taken preventive and proactive measures to slow the spread of the virus and to treat those affected, the spread of COVID-19 within our Nation’s communities threatens to strain our Nation’s healthcare systems.
I further noted that, to ensure that our healthcare systems are able to surge capacity and capability to respond to the spread of COVID-19, it is critical that all health and medical resources needed to respond to the spread of COVID-19 are properly distributed to the Nation’s healthcare systems and others that need them most at this time. Accordingly, I found that health and medical resources needed to respond to the spread of COVID-19, including personal protective equipment and ventilators, meet the criteria specified in section 101(b) of the Act (50 U.S.C. 4511(b)).
Sec. 2. Presidential Direction to the Secretary of Homeland Security (Secretary). The Secretary, through the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Administrator), shall use any and all authority available under the Act to acquire, from any appropriate subsidiary or affiliate of 3M Company, the number of N-95 respirators that the Administrator determines to be appropriate.
Sec. 3. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this memorandum shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or
(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.
(b) This memorandum shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.
(c) This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.
Our President and the Coronavirus Task Force held a press briefing yesterday with the latest updates and information.
Here are some shorter video clips:
The greatest gift our President can leave us with at the end of his presidency is that we no longer depend on any foreign country for our pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. If he fulfills that wish, he will go down in my mind as the GREATEST PRESIDENT this country has ever had!
He has the right man in charge!
