News Roundup! Opioid Crisis, Governor DeSantis, Bernie or Bust For His Voters, Mexico, Caravan, Economic Success, VP In Michigan…..

As our President and FLOTUS departed the White House for a Rx Drug Abuse and Heroin Summit in Atlanta, GA, they delivered remarks to the White House press pool.

https://publicpool.kinja.com/subject-remarks-by-president-trump-before-marine-one-d-1834279067

From the transcript linked above:

THE PRESIDENT: So the stock market and our country, from an economic standpoint, is doing the best probably it’s ever done. We’re hitting new highs again. We’ve hit new highs, I guess close to, or over 100 times since I’m President — from the time of the election.

Unemployment numbers are the best they’ve ever been by far. We have almost 160 million people working today in the United States. That’s more than we’ve ever had working in our country before.

We’re doing well on trade. We’re doing well with China. Things are going good.

I’m bringing the First Lady right now. She’s worked very hard on the opioid crisis. We’re down about 17 percent from last year, which is pretty amazing. We’re down 17 percent with the opioid problem. It’s a big problem. It’s a big addiction and we’re handling it. The doctors are working with us. The labs are working. The clinics are working. The pharmaceutical companies are working with us. And we’ve made a tremendous amount of progress.

John. Go ahead.

Q Mr. President, what do you plan to do about the subpoena for Don McGahn and other subpoenas that are expected from the Hill?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, the subpoena is ridiculous. We have been — I have been the most transparent President and administration in the history of our country by far. We just went through the Mueller witch hunt, where you had, really, 18 angry Democrats that hate President Trump. They hate him with a passion. They were contributors, in many cases, to Hillary Clinton. Hate him with a passion. How they picked this panel, I don’t know.

And they came up with no collusion and they actually also came up with no obstruction. But our Attorney General ruled, based on the information, there was no obstruction. So you have no collusion, no obstruction.

Now we’re finished with it. And I thought, after two years, we’d be finished with it. No. Now the House goes and starts subpoenaing. They want to know every deal I’ve ever done. Now, Mueller, I assume, for $35 million, checked my taxes, checked my financials — which are great, by the way. You know they’re great. All you have to do is go look at the records; they’re all over the place. But they checked my financials and they checked my taxes, I assume.

It was the most thorough investigation probably in the history of our country — I think I read — where they interviewed 500 people.

I say it’s enough. Get back to infrastructure. Get back to cutting taxes. Get back to lowering drug prices. That’s what — really, that’s what we should be doing.

Q Mr. President, will you fight the McGahn subpoena? Will you claim executive privilege?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, we’re fighting all the subpoenas.

Look, these aren’t like impartial people. The Democrats are trying to win 2020. They’re not going to win with the people that I see. And they’re not going to win against me. The only way they can maybe luck out — and I don’t think that’s going to happen. It might make it even the opposite. That’s what a lot of people are saying. The only way they can luck out is by constantly going after me on nonsense.

But they should be really focused on legislation, not the things that have been — this has been litigated — just so you understand, this has been litigated for the last two years, almost since I got into office.

Now, if you want to litigate, go after the DNC, Crooked Hillary, the dirty cops — all of these things. That’s what should be litigated because that was a rigged system. And I’m breaking down — I am breaking down the swamp. If you look at what’s happening, they’re getting caught. They’re getting fired. Who knows what’s going to happen from now on, but I hope it’s — I hope it’s very strong.

But if you look at “drain the swamp,” I am draining the swamp.

Thank you very much. Thank you.

Our President and First Lady addressed participants of the 8th annual Prescription Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit in Atlanta, Georgia earlier today. The entire speech can be found at the link below.

Governor DeSantis isn’t playing around! He is a man on a mission.

From the article linked above:

While there is no such thing as a sanctuary city in Florida, the bill would put a definition of “sanctuary city” into law. The bill builds in a rule that local government employees or elected officials who permit sanctuary-city policies may be suspended or removed from office. The proposal also includes fines of up to $5,000 for each day that a sanctuary-city policy is in place.

From the article linked above:

The Florida Senate passed legislation on Monday that will allow teachers to be armed to shoot back if their classroom comes under attack.

The Democrats are screwed! The last person the Establishment wants to win the Democrat Primary is Bernie Sanders. If they are crazy enough to steal it from him, a chunk of their voters will either stay home or vote for our President.

From the article linked above:

“Bernie or bust” is their rallying cry, and many supporters of socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., say they will vote for President Trump if their candidate is denied the Democratic nomination a second time.

After the 2016 election, the Cooperative Congressional Election Study found about 12% of those who voted for Sanders in the Democratic primaries voted for Trump in the general election. There are early signs that Sanders fervor is so strong that this could double in 2020, a development that could hand the White House to Trump for a second term.

An Emerson College poll this month showed 26% of those who support Sanders in the Democratic primaries and caucuses would support Trump over Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., despite their overlapping policy positions.

If they cheat again, I have told people I will vote for Trump,” Pennsylvania resident and Sanders supporter Keith Ward, 58, told the Washington Examiner. “Not because I like him, but because if this country is going down a slippery slope, they have no one to blame but themselves.”

Ward voted for Sanders in the 2016 Democratic primary and for Green Party candidate Jill Stein in the general election. “I felt I had no choice,” he said, adding that he felt his 2016 vote would send a message. “I’m just not sure the [Democratic] Party heard it.”

Another Sanders supporter expressed a similar sentiment: “If the DNC screws him again, like it’s already looking they will, I’ll stay home on voting day. Hell, I may vote for Trump just to make sure their candidate loses.”

Americans continue to win because of our President’s Economic Agenda!

Our President is slapping around the Mexican Government! It is absolutely working.

From the article linked above:

The Mexican government says it has deported 15,000 migrants who illegally entered Mexico from Guatemala and had been traveling as part of caravans in hopes of reaching the United States’ southern border.

On Monday, federal authorities broke up more caravans moving north through Chiapas. Immigration authorities had 10 buses and a dozen trucks waiting at a checkpoint just south of Pijijiapan so that everyone could be deported. A local report said some threw rocks at the federal law enforcement officers.

Our VP was in Michigan earlier today visiting an auto plant to highlight what the new USMCA will due for the auto sector.

He also decided to slap around the previous President on Twitter.

That “Magic Wand” is working for the Forgotten Men & Women!

      1. Love ya, Flep. I look forward to reading this every day. I consume a lot of news, but yours is always optimistic without being false because you provide evidence. Many, many thanks.

        Random points:

I loved Melania’s polka dot dress.

I can’t believe drug addiction is down by 17%–that is yuge, I think.

I love the great economic news. I especially love the news on our border, although that huge caravan gives me the heebie jeebies. But I know PDJT is on it.

And I LOVE what Ron DeSantis is doing. I wish I had a governor like that.

        1. Despair at unemployment and the shame of not being able to provide for families drove many to opiates. Pain and depression feed off each other. Chronic pain and ptsd sufferers in double blind studies improve hugely when on antidepressants. There is another antidepressant though and President Trump has delivered it. It’s HOPE. Hope of being able to earn an honest living. Hope for your children’s future. And it’s PRIDE. Being able to look in the mirror and feel pride. Being proud of your country and you family ,kids and community.

  3. Flep!! So much going on today!! This morning’s Quick Q and A with POTUS left us with a bombshell (At least I thought so…) and the subtle “opioid use is down 17% (there’s that # again.)😏😆

Both THe President and First Lady spoke openly and clearly regarding fighting addictions in our country and tirelessly working to end Drug Addictions is USA!!! Powerful!!

Ron DeSantis is like a mini Trump in Florida–complete Honey Badger–and except for in Florida is flying under the radar–I am beginning to agree–DeSantis 2024!!!!

Super interesting info on Bernie Sanders supporters–and for the record–I believe Bernie bros will either stay home or lash out and actually vote for TRUMP in 2020!!! Winning on so many fronts!!!

Haven’t read thru Veep speech yet… but Thanks again!

          2. Assange removed from the embassy
          3. President Trump paying the FIRST state visit
the chances are pretty good Assange will cough up who handed him the memory stick. Since Seth was killed, Assange can use that as the reason, THIS ONCE he is divulging a source in hopes Seth will recieve justice.

    2. I was really interested in the Bernie bros. I continue to be puzzled at the fervor of his support. How could anyone support that maniac for anything????? I love the idea of Bernie managing to divide the Dims no matter what happens. If he doesn’t win, his supporters are going to think he waz robbed no matter what. If he wins, what on earth will the “normal” Dims do (if there are any and I am starting to doubt that).

What was the bombshell PDJT dropped?

Looks like the National Emergency Wall Funding is going to the Supreme Court.

    Liked by 8 people

    1. Keep in mind that the National Emergency funding is phase 3 of the EO our President signed. They are using the reallocation of funds from the DOD to DHS. That accounts for nearly $4 billion dollars before having to touch the other funds. They are not shutting down the Wall being built.

      1. Flep,
Remember President Trump is a BUILDER. Any bets he can get that wall built for A LOT LESS than stated, once he trims off all the pork found in most government projects.

Heck that company with the inovate ideas has cut costs by A LOT. Also cutting the bureaucratic Red Tape will cut a lot of the cost too.

    2. Found this from one of my previous posts.

Here is what they won’t share with you today! The WALL is getting built and the military funding is already being used. Remember that the National Emergency is only one of three pools of monies that our President is using. They haven’t needed to touch those funds yet.

      https://www.npr.org/2019/03/12/702735120/white-house-spokesman-discusses-path-ahead-for-trumps-national-emergency-declara

      From the article linked above:

NPR’s Audie Cornish speaks with White House spokesman Adam Kennedy about the path ahead for President Trump’s emergency declaration to build the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

CORNISH: So far, has there been any new border wall construction using the emergency declaration authorization?

KENNEDY: So when the president signed the emergency declaration, there was different buckets of funding. There was some from legislation, some from reprogramming and then some from the national emergency. This money is going to be spent sequentially, and it’s going to be spent in a rolling manner as new priorities are identified and exploited. So I don’t think we’re quite at the emergency funding yet, but we’ve been using the money since the declaration.

      https://www.wsj.com/articles/nsa-recommends-dropping-phone-surveillance-program-11556138247?ns=prod/accounts-wsj

The National Security Agency has recommended that the White House abandon a U.S. surveillance program that collects information about Americans’ phone calls and text messages, saying the logistical and legal burdens of keeping it outweigh its intelligence benefits, according to people familiar with the matter.

The recommendation against seeking the renewal of the once-secret spying program amounts to an about-face by the agency, which had long argued in public and to congressional overseers that the program was vital to the task of finding and disrupting terrorism plots against the U.S.

The latest view is rooted in a growing belief among senior intelligence officials that the spying program provides limited value to national security and has become a logistical headache.

Frustrations about legal-compliance issues forced the NSA to halt use of the program earlier this year, the people said. Its legal authority will expire in December unless Congress reauthorizes it. (read more)

…”It is up to the White House, not the NSA, to decide whether to push for legislation to renew the phone-records program. The White House hasn’t yet reached a policy decision about the surveillance program, according to the people familiar with the matter.

The White House National Security Council and the NSA declined to comment.”…

[…] In remarks over the past month, Gen. Paul Nakasone, the director of the NSA and chief of U.S. Cyber Command, has declined to offer specifics about the status of conversations about the metadata program, but he has acknowledged officials are reviewing whether it is necessary.

“It’s a collaborative process, and the administration will make the decision,” Mr. Nakasone said this month at a Marshall Forum event in Washington. “We are taking a look at it, what is the value of it, what are we able to get from it…I think the question becomes, is this a tool that we continue to need to have for our nation’s security?”

      1. What is the impending NSA program shutdown is a head fake? Put out there in order to fool the public into thinking the program is gone.

What if it merely got transferred? To the Orb Network?

My opinion is that the US intel agencies are obsolete and now exist basically as eye candy. Sort of like the old west towns in movies that really are nothing more than a facade with nothing behind it.

The Orb conference was a flash in the news and then NOTHING since then. Was the Orb with the hands on it merely a cheap photo op?

Not in my book. The fact that newswise it doesn’t exist just proves to me that it is active and critical.

2017-2018 – 115 miles total under contract.appropriations/contracts (almost all obligated under contract), from the official press releases on CBP website (like this: https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/national-media-release/border-wall-contract-award-arizona)

    2019 – Additional 57 miles – $976 million – 172 total miles under contract.

    Trump administration plan:
Complete 450 miles of wall by the end of 2020! – Cost $8 billion – 33 separate projects.

    http://dailytorch.com/2019/04/450-miles-of-wall-by-end-of-2020-army-corps-reports-to-president-trump/

I’m hoping Fisher Industries will also get some of these future contracts – if they are on the up and up. They certainly seem like a reputable and innovative company and very interested in doing a top quality expedited job!
Fisher got Caterpillar to build special equipment to enable them to build a mile per day of wall – including a paved concrete roadway!

    1. Currently 172 miles of wall are under contract – that’s farther than from Tallahassee to Jacksonville.

If they build 450 miles by the end of 2020 – that will be from Jacksonville into Mississippi.

At that rate, they will have all the wall built by the end of President Trump’s Second Term!!!

May to Let China Build UK 5G Network, Damaging National Security, Anglosphere Co-operation
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/04/24/may-to-let-china-build-uk-5g-network-damaging-national-security-anglosphere-co-operation/

I think we are going to have to close the border with Mexico and the border with Canada. Canada is part of Five Eyes and will just provide a back door to China. How can Mexico trade with Canada unless they send their trucks through the USA? If they do, the drug and human trafficking will just continue unabated.

We will probably have to close our non-military shipping ports also. I don’t see how we will be able to leave our ports open under the circumstances.

We will not be able to continue to trade with Europe until we resolve these situations.

We will need to take extreme measures with our Internet also.

I am curious to see how President Trump handles these events. I am confident they were anticipated and provided for in THE PLAN.

In one of President Trump’s tweets, he said we had to be competitive with 5g or even 6g. Wonder if 6g is ready to unveil??

    We live in interesting times.

    1. So 3G was originally a European cell standard that replaced U.S. standards that had, sadly, become sluggish and fell behind in the late 90s while the U.S. markets were all focused on internet broadband and carrier networks. There was also a massive perceived benefit of having a common cell standard in the U.S. and in Europe and worldwide (remember NTSC vs PAL? Or DVD region coding?) so the same equipment would work elsewhere.

I totally believe the U.S. can leapfrog again. The question is who and how. If the U.S. doesn’t adopt 5th Gen standards they will NOT be adopted around the world in the Trump era. Europe will try to move to 5G but I think it will fall flat if the U.S. isn’t behind it this time. China will do whatever they want to do – but they will be cautious b/c they do NOT want to be burned on cell technology. (AGAIN!) 3G became a thing outside Europe b/c the U.S. adopted it. We invented cell and Europe needs U.S. more than we need them!

I so want Trump to tell the ITU where they can shove it!

(Queue Cuppa Covfefe doing the rain dance…)

To answer your question, I’m not in the telecom industry or academia anymore, but I don’t think 6G standards working groups are tee’d up at all. Maybe on paper. But it’s just a paper standard. Bet we could just eliminate all the European bloat from the standards and optimize the signaling and command structures and boost performance on that alone. We wouldn’t name it some pansy name like “6G” either – it’s be Next Gen Wide Band or some such.

      1. I tell you want I really want… and I’m sure there will be some people unhappy with me…

I want to reclaim the UHF spectrum (at least partly) and use that for the new wireless data standard. We could get a lot of spectrum especially in rural areas for high data rates.

I’m not much of a layer 2 guy, but I want to see so major improvement to our wireless layer 2 design over IMEI/MEID numbers and such. We don’t need no stinkin’ SIM cards!

I’m torn on what to do above layer 2. TCP/IP is NOT optimized for cellular data traffic! But at the same time I really would like devices to have the option of IPv6 right on top of the layer 2 system. More applications need to be written to take advantage of UDP and similar protocols, to be loss tolerant. That HTTP/HTTPS is TCP rather than UDP has annoyed me for nearly two decades.

I don’t want SS7 to be layered directly on to the mobile devices. Don’t get me wrong, I love SS7 but I think it’s just holding back mobile devices at this point. SS7 can be done as HD VoIP calls. Phone number portability should be uncoupled from SIM cards.

Yes I do love SS7 and would love to see the standard modernized, but there isn’t money or industry drive to do it – unless it is modernized with new wireless standards being the driver.

There will be some tensions b/c there are still many moms and pops (my in-laws) who cannot wrap their heads around a world without phone numbers and land lines.

Just my late nite thoughts, maybe not that cogent…

        Liked by 5 people

          1. As best as I can… 😉

            * A wireless device should be able to operate without having an old “phone number” attached to it.

            * A “cell phone” was basically a wireless way to bridge back to the phone network (Signaling System No. 7, developed in 1975) but that bridge is becoming irrelevant to the way we use wireless devices today, and could be simplified. Remember how old walkie-talkies or CB’s use a channel to communicate? They don’t use phone numbers. Mobile devices don’t need phone numbers any more than I need a portable fax machine.

            * On a mobile device, to make a phone call, it should just be an app to install with a one time setup. You could have multiple phone numbers thru the app. But you would be carrying around a mobile device with a phone app, not a cell phone per se. There are a lot of implications for this b/c it is a huge paradigm shift for some people. A major problem to be resolved is the individual and government expectations for “cell phones” – remember: it should be a “mobile device” not a “cell phone”, but the paradigm is stuck in people’s heads – the expectation is that the mobile device can make 911 emergency calls. No one thinks an iPad or a pager should make 911 calls but once people think of their iTouch as a “phone” a host of other baggage comes with it.

            * There is a LOT of wireless spectrum tied up in the old TV UHF frequencies – basically all the old TV channels above channel 13 up to channel 88 that have very few stations (due to a lot of dumb historical reasons of problems caused by the FCC that are another lesson in why government bureaucrats shouldn’t be writing standards.). That wireless spectrum could be reallocated for mobile devices, and there should be enough that it would be highly competitive with broadband, and provide rural areas with a strong wireless option. Some UHF stations would need to change to lower channels to consolidate the spectrum but I think this is manageable.

            * Cell phones don’t need SIM cards. This is a stodgy artifact of the 3G standard. American cell phones did not have SIM cards in the past – granted this led to problems, and SIM was *one* possible solution. But IMO they are archaic. I shouldn’t have to crack (bust?) open my phone when I buy it to insert a tiny piece of plastic.

            * On SS7, I’d love to see enhancements to the old Ma Bell phone network. But at this point there is too much old infra, and it isn’t used as much as it used to be, so there is less money in upgrading the system. No one thinks land lines are going to make a comeback at this point, even if they provided high speed digital internet access. (I had ISDN back in the day, which was a nice improvement over plain old telephone service, but it was EXPENSIVE and the telephone companies limited it so it never did reach its potential.)

            * I would like the mobile device, to the end user, to just be an internet attached device, with no phone number or other mess. But the Internet Protocol we use was originally designed forty years ago, and not with wireless or mobile in mind. Even the web was invented in the early 90s – every time you hit a website it does a ton of back and forth handshaking that slows everything down. On a PC on high speed internet it isn’t bad, but it is painful on mobile devices. There are efforts to redesign these protocols (HTTP/2 and HTTP over UDP being good examples) and it seems that there are efforts to support these, but it will take time to get widespread adoption.

  10. fleporeblog says:

“I truly believe that the Military Brass asked our President to run because they say the direction our country was going in….”

I agree Flep. During the campaign Dr. Steve R. Pieczenik mentioned military/White Hats were involved in keeping the election ‘honest. (He is quite the character and I am not sure I believe him.) Then if you read this it certainly adds weight to our belief.

List Of Military Elite Purged And Fired Under Obama

Since Barack Obama has been in the White House, high ranking military officers have been removed from their positions at a rate that is absolutely unprecedented. Things have gotten so bad that a number of retired generals are publicly speaking out about the ‘purg’ of the U.S. military that they believe is taking place. As you will see below, dozens of highly decorated military leaders have been dismissed from their positions over the past few years. So why is this happening? What is going on right now is absolutely crazy especially during a time of peace. Is there a deliberate attempt to reshape the military and remove those who don’t adhere to the proper ‘viewpoints’ ? Does someone out there feel a need to get officers that won’t cooperate out of the way?

Throughout world history, whatever comes next after a military purge is never good.
If this continues, what is the U.S. military going to look like in a few years?

Perhaps you are reading this and you think that ‘purge’ is too strong a word for what is taking place. Well, just consider the following quotes from some very highly decorated retired officers:

-Retired Army Major General Paul Vallely:The White House protects their own. That’s why they stalled on the investigation into fast and furious, Benghazi and Obamacare. He’s intentionally weakening and gutting our military, Pentagon and reducing us as a superpower, and anyone in the ranks who disagrees or speaks out is being purged.

-Retired Army Major General Patrick Brady: There is no doubt he (Obama) is intent on emasculating the military and will fire anyone who disagrees with him.

-Retired Army Lt. General William G. Jerry Boykin:Over the past three years, it is unprecedented for the number of four-star generals to be relieved of duty, and not necessarily relieved for cause.

-Retired Navy Captain Joseph John:I believe there are more than 137 officers who have been forced out or given bad evaluation reports so they will never make Flag (officer), because of their failure to comply to certain views.

A Pentagon official who asked to remain nameless because they were not authorized to speak on the matter said even young officers, down through the ranks have been told not to talk about Obama or the politics of the White House. They are purging everyone and if you want to keep your job just keep your mouth shut. Now this trend appears to be accelerating.

    General Vallely’s comment:
Absolutely every communist regime on the planet did this as soon as they got in power. I am surprised this communist traitor with his feet up on our furniture in the white house hasn’t done this until now!

SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? I am doing my part. How about forwarding this.

    1. Gail, I have a list from several years ago that listed 135 officers taken out. Destroying our military is also why they were doing the transgender thing. It was sad to watch. Obama was taking us down as fast as possible.
I believe we are going to be okay now. We still have a battle ahead of us but we will win.

      2. I like the woman who smacks his arm before every video starts 😁

I enjoy the videos, but considering his background, how can you ever know what’s disinformation and what isn’t?

Sometimes he seems to contradict himself from one video to the next. IIRC, in one video he said very nice things about Bush Sr., and then the next video he trashed him. What are you supposed to make of that?

Whatever he’s up to, it seems like he’s having fun doing it.

  11. Good grief! How blatant can she be and still keep her job??!!??

“Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx was forced to recuse herself after she posed for a selfie with the defendant.”

“Chicago, IL – Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has agreed to “formally” recuse herself from the case of a man charged with battery on a peace officer after she appeared on Facebook in a selfie with the defendant.

Eight Chicago police officers accused Foxx of conflict of interest after a photo of her posing with a grin next to Jedediah Brown in a selfie popped up on social media, WBBM reported.

At the time she posed for the selfie with the defendant, she was also prosecuting him.

“When you’re taking pictures with the prosecutor while you have a case pending, that appearance is of impropriety calls out for removal of that prosecutor,” James McKay, the attorney for the Chicago police officers, told WBBM. “If a prosecutor has a relationship – whether it’s a working relationship, a political relationship, a personal relationship – he or she should remove themselves from that case so it appears to be fair and impartial for both sides.”

“Brown is facing charges of resisting arrest, obstructing traffic, and two counts of misdemeanor battery to a peace officer for an incident that occurred when Brown was protesting an officer-involved shooting in July of 2018, WBBM reported.

The incident occurred during a protest march condemning the shooting of barber Harith Augustus.

Chicago Police Department Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Brown was arrested after he and other protesters had been asked multiple times to stop blocking traffic, the Chicago Tribune reported at the time.

The arrest report said Brown became “resistant and officers had to physically restrain him to take him into custody,” according to Guglielmi.

A cell phone video of the incident posted to Twitter showed Brown fighting with officers and refusing to comply even after they took him to the ground.

The video also showed him refusing to walk to the police transport van and trying to cause a ruckus after he was loaded into it.

The officers who complained about Foxx’s conflict of interest also claimed Brown was a paid member of Foxx’s campaign staff

However, it turned out that Brown was only a volunteer for the future state’s attorney’s campaign, WBBM reported.”

    1. Chicago is the laughingstock of the entire planet.

There are banana republics who use Chicago as their model, trying their best to follow Chicago’s crooked ways, but knowing they could never hope to reach the heights of idiocy and farce that makes Chicago the poster child for political corruption the world over.
